LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 4, 2004--Electronic Arts (Nasdaq:ERTS - News), the world's leading interactive entertainment company, is pleased to announce that the Medal of Honor Pacific Assault(TM) Director's Edition has shipped to stores in North America and is available for purchase today. Developed at EA Los Angeles (EALA), Medal of Honor Pacific Assault Director's Edition is bursting with bonus content including six video features, two interactive applications, and an exclusive weapon.
Medal of Honor Pacific Assault gives players a sense of the courage it took to fight the Imperial Japanese Army from the shock of Pearl Harbor to triumph on the shores of the Tarawa Atoll. Set in the Pacific Theatre of Operations from 1941-1943, players will assume the role of Marine recruit Tommy Conlin as he survives the attack on Pearl Harbor, leads the assault on Guadalcanal and finally charges up the beaches for the climactic battle at Tarawa. Relying on natural instincts and a variety of authentic weapons, it's up to the player to stop the Japanese war machine in its tracks.
The PC-DVD Medal of Honor Pacific Assault Director's Edition contains the full game, plus an arsenal of bonus content which will appeal to game fans and history buffs alike. Most notable is the Interactive Timeline, a dynamic presentation of the history of the Pacific Theater during WWII. With a click of the mouse, knowledge-hungry players can track attack planes and ships, highlight them to learn more about the type of vehicle and its crew or play audio clips such as Roosevelt's "December 7th Day of Infamy" speech, as well as declarations of war from both Japan and Britain. Every major battle included in the game is highlighted, as is additional contextual information.
Additional content includes two educational documentaries written and produced by EA. "Medal of Honor Pacific Assault The Thought War", details the use of propaganda during World War II, and "Medal of Honor Pacific Assault Paths of Glory" features gripping interviews with WWII veterans who describe their experiences in the major battles covered in the game.
In addition to those features, the Medal of Honor Pacific Assault Director's Edition offers an eye-opening montage of the WWII poster imagery that inspired a nation. Pop-Up Facts can be toggled on and off during the game to highlight historical facts, famous quotes, and relevant statistics. (This feature will be included in both the Medal of Honor Pacific Assault standard and the Director's Edition.)
Longtime fans of the Medal of Honor franchise will appreciate the behind the scenes peek at creating the game, and the Medal of Honor(TM) Media Player which contains more than 60 conceptual paintings used in designing the Medal of Honor games, as well as the best selection of the Medal of Honor franchise's award-winning music. Hardcore gamers will enjoy playing the game with the exclusive weapon available only in the Medal of Honor Pacific Assault Director's Edition.
According to Executive Producer Rick Giolito, the task of bringing the Pacific Theater experience to life was not taken lightly. "The Medal of Honor Pacific Assault Director's Edition was a labor of love for the development team who created it. Many of us have relatives who served during WWII, while others have spent countless hours interviewing veterans about their Pacific Theater experiences while conducting research for the game. Because of these personal relationships, the entire design team felt a responsibility to drive home the significance of WWII in our collective world history," explained Giolito. "With the Medal of Honor Pacific Assault Director's Edition, we have the rare opportunity to present that commitment to keeping history alive, both with the actual game experience and in the educational content that accompanies the game."
As with the previous Medal of Honor titles, the producers of Medal of Honor Pacific Assault sought counsel from numerous outside expert sources to make certain the game is as historically authentic and realistic as possible. EALA continues to work closely with the Congressional Medal of Honor Society to ensure Medal of Honor Pacific Assault reflects the ideals and integrity of the prestigious Medal of Honor. In addition, Capt. Dale Dye, who served as military technical advisor on the previous titles in the Medal of Honor franchise, continues his efforts with the Medal of Honor Pacific Assault development team to ensure the authenticity of the game.
Medal of Honor Pacific Assault is rated "T" (Teen) with descriptors of Blood, Language, Violence by the ESRB and is available under the EA GAMES(TM) brand with a US MSRP of $49.99. The Medal of Honor Pacific Assault Director's Edition has a US MSRP of $59.99.
The standard version of Medal of Honor Pacific Assault will ship in North America on November 9th, 2004.
