Game Music for All Generations
Union, NJ – April 11, 2007 – Generations Productions LLC, an award-winning music studio and production company, announced that its internationally acclaimed composer Winifred Phillips (whose work includes the upcoming “Shrek the Third” video game) has recorded a “Super Mario Brothers” tribute track to celebrate the company’s four years of success in the video game industry. Since the company was founded in 2003, Winifred has created original musical scores for four blockbuster games: “The Da Vinci Code”, “God of War”, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, and “Shrek the Third”. To commemorate this achievement and to celebrate the importance of music in video games, Winifred created the all-new recording “Go Mario! (Super Mario Brothers)”, a tribute track saluting the 20th anniversary of the release of the original game. Winifred worked with award-winning music producer Winnie Waldron, her long-time partner at Generations Productions, on this track.

“My music producer Winnie Waldron and I feel that older video games that have helped shape our current industry are an important part of our shared heritage,” Winifred said, “It was an honor and quite thrilling that we were asked to contribute a track to The Best of the Best: A Tribute to Game Music. My hope is that the fans out there will love this piece.”

Winifred’s music will be featured on the album “The Best of the Best: A Tribute to Game Music”, which will be available exclusively on May 1st at Game Music Central (www.gamemusiccentral.com). According to the Guinness Book of World Records, “Super Mario Brothers” is the bestselling game of all time. Winifred’s new version of this theme will be featured on May 1st in this upcoming album, the first compilation album to highlight top game composers performing music inspired by some of the greatest games ever made. The album also includes music from “The Legend of Zelda”, “Myst III: Exile”, “World of Warcraft”, “Metroid Prime”, “Medal of Honor”, “Final Fantasy” and many others, all performed by a select group of celebrity videogame composers.

Known in the games industry not only for her ability to tap into the emotions of gamers with her cinematic orchestral scores, but also for her virtuoso skills as a classically trained vocalist, Winifred has recorded her own voice as a part of the orchestral scores for all of her game projects. For “The Best of the Best” album, Winifred performed an a-cappella vocal version of the Super Mario Brothers theme. Overdubbing her own voice into twenty tracks, Winifred executed complex vocal harmonies at breakneck speeds, adorned with classic video game sound effects to celebrate the overwhelming world-wide affection for the original NES game.

Following close on the heels of the “Best of the Best” album debut will be the release of Winifred’s fourth triple-A videogame project. Her previous game projects have earned her numerous awards, including the Interactive Achievement Award for Best Original Score from the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences, and four Game Audio Network Guild Awards, including the prestigious "Music of the Year" Award. In addition, Winifred produced, narrated and was the composer of the award-winning “Radio Tales” series, in which she wrote the musical scores for over one hundred music drama programs first aired via National Public Radio and currently broadcast each week to the over seven million subscribers of XM Satellite Radio (Sonic Theater, channel 163). For her work on this series, Winifred is a four-time winner of the coveted Gracie Award for artistic excellence and outstanding achievement from the Foundation of American Women in Radio and Television.
