27th March 2007, Cambridge, UK. Geomerics today revealed that it has completed work on its 'Enlighten' software for the PlayStation®3. Enlighten dramatically enhances the quality of lighting in videogames, providing physically-based realistic lighting with dynamic lights in real-time.
Geomerics' CTO Julian Davis commented "We are delighted to have been given the opportunity to develop on the PS3. We believe that by harnessing the power of both the Cell processor and the GPU our lighting technology will help to realise the full graphics capability of Sony's console".
Geomerics CEO Gary Lewis added "There is no doubt that the PS3 provides a massive opportunity for companies such as Geomerics. We will be creating cutting edge technologies across a range of complex and challenging areas, each optimised to take full advantage of the PS3 architecture. This will offer developers massive savings in time and cost, while simultaneously improving the quality of the games they can deliver".

Geomerics new solution to computing real time radiosity is demonstrated on their website: http://www.geomerics.com/lighting. ; The solution achieves frame rates of up to 100Hz on common graphics hardware, and allows for fully dynamic lighting including point spot-lights, area lights, texture-based lighting, glowing objects and the projection of video onto geometry. The full indirect lighting calculation includes the soft-shadows that characterize real-world scenes. Geomerics' technology also integrates smoothly with classic techniques such as normal and gloss mapping, and fully supports HDR (high dynamic range) lighting effects.
