TrackIR 6DOF view control released for GRID™
Company: Natural Point
August 6, 2008 — NaturalPoint® announced today the addition of Codemasters®’ AAA racing game GRID™ to its extensive catalog of TrackIR Enhanced™ PC titles. TrackIR™ compatibility enables GRID users to take advantage of NaturalPoint’s Six Degrees of Freedom (6DOF) head tracking technology, which links the user’s actual movement in three-dimensional space to their in-game view and results in maximized gaming immersion.

TrackIR, the industry standard for 6DOF view control in leading games and simulations, consists of a small, monitor-mounted camera that detects the head’s movement by tracking a reflective clip attached to a hat, visor, or headphones. TrackIR’s motion scaling and robust customization controls allow GRID users to subtly and precisely manage the game’s view independent of other hardware inputs. Head tracking enables players to survey the car’s virtual cockpit, as well as the surrounding environment, more intuitively than with a mouse or keyboard—which results in superior control and immersion, giving users a distinct competitive advantage and unmatched overall experience.

“We’re excited to partner with Codemasters in supporting a kick-ass racing title,” said Jim Richardson, President of NaturalPoint. “Adding TrackIR’s singularly immersive technology to GRID’s amazingly far-reaching design was a great fit. The combined experience is what discriminating gamers are craving.”

TrackIR support is available with the version 1.2 patch of GRID. TrackIR is sold through an international dealer network and directly by NaturalPoint at

ABOUT GRID™ (Titled: Race Driver GRID™ outside the U.S.)
GRID is all about the race. Every moment from the adrenalin rush at the start lights to the elation at the chequered flag—the tension, pressure, noise, and action. Featuring only the most powerful race cars—current and classic, circuit and drift—players will compete to conquer the most prestigious official race tracks and championships and then go beyond to compete in challenging city-based competitions, through to road events and urban street races. In Europe, race prestige marques on the greatest official race circuits. Enter street competitions and race high-performance V8 muscle cars through iconic U.S. cities including San Francisco, Washington DC and Detroit. In the Far East, Japanese racing culture sets the tone where night races, including Drift racing, take drivers through neon illuminated cities and to outlying mountain roads. As the antithesis of the box-ticking, race game, Race Driver: GRID delivers races crammed with action and incident to create the most intense, the most aggressive and the most engrossing racing game for years. Whereas other titles may have lost sight that racing is the main event, in Race Driver: GRID everything builds up to creating an unparalleled race experience. GRID is now available for Games For Windows®, the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft®, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and Nintendo DS™.
