TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--NEXON Co., Ltd. (“Nexon”) (3659.TO), a worldwide leader in free-to-play online games, today announced the launch of Dota 2 in Korea.

Dota 2, developed by Valve Corporation (“Valve”) and published by Nexon Korea, is the highly-anticipated sequel to the genre-defining Dota. Dota 2 is an Action Online Strategy (AOS) game that pits two teams of five players against each other in an epic battle to destroy their opponents’ fortified strongholds. Dota 2 has experienced tremendous international success since its initial launch in July 2013 in Europe and North America, having already reached a record of 530,000 concurrent users, and has become a leading title at e-sports tournaments around the world.

In Dota 2, players select one of more than 100 different “Hero” characters, each with unique talents and abilities, and work with teammates to coordinate an attack on the opposing teams’ “ancient” – a seemingly impenetrable stronghold that can only be destroyed after certain objectives are achieved. The heroes’ varying skills and their unpredictable interactions with allies, coupled with the rich fantasy landscape and advanced matchmaking powered by the updated Source engine, make Dota 2 a unique, immersive and complex experience.

“We are very excited to launch this highly-anticipated title in the Korean market,” said Seungwoo Choi, President and Chief Executive Officer of Nexon. “Nexon and Valve’s successful partnership has created the opportunity to continue the Dota franchise’s worldwide momentum and provide players in Korea with AAA content.”
