WHAT:
Voices and spirits will be soaring as students and teachers at H.D. Cooke Elementary School in Washington, D.C. celebrate Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM®) on Thursday, March 12, with an interactive, all-school music-making event, hosted by MENC: The National Association for Music Education (MENC) and Nintendo.
Students will have a chance to explore dozens of new instruments and create their own custom jams with a live demonstration of Nintendo’s Wii Music™ game by Nintendo video game expert J.C. Rodrigo. The Wii Music demo will also highlight the ways in which the game’s engaging mix of instruments, music tutorials and wireless jam sessions can inspire students of all ages to create and enjoy music while learning about rhythm, tempo and song structure.
Just before the special Wii Music event, H.D. Cooke students will be participating in MENC’s annual World’s Largest Concert®, a sing-along program that links students around the world in a simultaneous celebration of music. Both events support MIOSM’s mission to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all children.
H.D. Cooke Elementary School is incorporating Wii Music into its music classroom as part of Nintendo’s national educational collaboration with MENC. Currently, schools in more than 50 cities across the nation are integrating Wii Music activities into their music education curricula.
