Toronto, ON – August 22nd, 2012

Independent game developer Spooky Squid Games announced through a new trailer today that They Bleed Pixels will be released next week, August 29th for PC on Steam. To celebrate the release they asked artists from comics, games, animation, photography and costuming to create their own interpretation of They Bleed Pixels’ clawed protagonist. The resulting eighteen works are being rolled out over the next week as desktop wallpapers on theybleedpixels.com and will also be included as unlockables in the game.

“We’re big fans of the various ‘tribute’ books for classic games and seeing how different artists can radically reinterpret iconic characters. So we decided to try creating something similar as a little gift to players while they wait for They Bleed Pixels to be released.” says Miguel Sternberg, Creative Director at Spooky Squid Games. “We ended up being incredibly lucky, not only do we have artists from those classic gaming tribute books, but also creators from several other mediums. As you’ll see over the next week the results are incredibly varied, from adorable watercolor illustrations to a gritty blood soaked photoshoot.”

New wallpapers will go up every day from August 22nd-28th at 12am EST. The first three are up now at theybleedpixels.com and can be freely redistributed so long as they are not altered.

Players looking forward to the They Bleed Pixels can also grab the game’s soundtrack by DJ Finish Him which goes on sale today. It contains a massive 54 tracks, including several outtakes, remixes and variants: http://djfinishhim.bandcamp.com/
