BOISE, ID, September 28th, 2007 -- StarWraith 3D Games LLC today released Evochron Renegades, the sequel to its original freeform 3D space combat and mercenary simulator.
Evochron Renegades features true freeform gameplay, letting you play the game the way you want to and defining your role in the game's universe through your actions and decisions. With gameplay options far beyond the genre's typical trading and combat, Evochron Renegades lets you perform a variety of activities including racing, spying, exploring, equipment cleaning, clearing shipping paths of asteroids, bribing, hiring crew members, transporting, recovering lost items, fuel harvesting, ship designing, and much more. The game also rewards players who 'think outside the box' by coming up with new ways to advance and survive using the available trade, combat, and exploration options.
Evochron Renegades features a vast seamless universe that lets you fly anywhere without loading screens or choppy environment flipping. Fly from planet to planet, star to star, solar system to solar system seamlessly. You're free to fly where you want, when you want with open space navigation and onboard jump drives. There are no required warp gates or trade lanes to hold you back and restrict your travel. Optional gates are available to simply provide shortcuts for long distance travel.
The game's environment interaction also goes far beyond the genre's typical 'background wallpaper'. Nebula clouds, asteroid fields, atmospheres, stars, moons, caves, and planet rings all provide unique options for shelter and strategy. Such environment effects include changes in gravity, fuel consumption, physics, sensor range, and visibility.
You are in the action with a first person viewpoint, directly controlling your ship, including its weapons and equipment. Instead of only letting you click the mouse a few times just to have the game play itself, Evochron Renegades lets you make all gameplay decisions directly from the cockpit with complete control over where you go, how you fight, and what you do in the game.
For the first time in the series, you can join with other players in cooperative contracts and share the rewards. Players can now join forces to take on far more difficult objectives, including destroying massive capital ships armed with beam weapons, missiles, and particle cannons.
Evochron Renegades features unified gameplay architecture, which lets you keep the ship, upgrades, equipment, money, weapons, crew, and commodities you acquire in the game for use in both single player and multiplayer. You don't have to give up what you earn when switching gameplay modes. Plus, you can save your progress virtually anywhere without having to be docked.
The all-new component based shipyard gives you far more control over the design and look of your ship. Optimize for defense, exploration, combat, racing, or transporting... the choice is yours. You can also position and scale each component to give your ship a unique appearance. Your ship can be further enhanced by hiring specialized crew members, upgrades, and equipment.
The game also features a new onboard cargo management system. Transport and trade weapons, upgrades, and equipment in addition to commodities. You can even load items from your cargo bay onto your ship, letting you carry more weapons, upgrades, and equipment beyond what you can install. And unlike other games in the genre which restrict trading to stations or planets, Renegades lets you also trade directly with other ships, both AI controlled and human players.
The realistic zero gravity inertia based 'Newtonian' style flight model includes complete freedom of movement (3-way rotation and 3-way direction control) with optional variable input. An advanced inertial dampening system helps keep flight control simple in space, atmospheres, and gravity fields.
Other games in the genre often present planets as nothing more than massive spherical space mines that destroy the player if they dare get too close. Evochron Renegades lets you descend into planets seamlessly to explore their surfaces, mine, and trade at city stations. You control the entire descent from the time you're in space until you reach the surface and dock at a city. New weather effects include rain, snow, and turbulence.
The new graphics engine provides a far larger sense of scale, realistic lighting, and high detail. It also includes a new 3D cockpit, specular effects, explosions, and environment details.
The game includes support for NaturalPoint® Inc.'s TrackIR™ head tracking system. A PC with TrackIR connected knows exactly where the player is sitting and looking, by capturing their head motion with all six degrees of freedom. Evochron Renegades uses TrackIR’s unique input to control the view from the pilot's cockpit perspective, independent of keyboard, mouse, or joystick inputs.
Evochron Renegades will continue the SW3DG tradition of feedback based development. Players are encouraged to become involved in the enhancements to the game as their requests and suggestions will help guide future updates. Players are also invited to become part of the forum to share custom modifications, exchange tips, and to stay informed of updates.
Evochron Renegades runs on the Windows® PC platform, including Windows 2000, XP, and Vista. The recommended minimum system configuration for the game includes a 1.5 GHz processor, 64 MB 3D video card, and 512 MB of RAM. The game supports keyboard, mouse, joystick, and gamepad control options with remapping capability.
