SANTA MONICA, Calif. - October 3, 2008 – The Game Factory, an international publisher of family-friendly and casual videogames, received top honors from the National Parenting Publication Awards (NAPPA) for its Build-A-Bear Workshop game.
The Build-A-Bear Workshop® game is a simulation video game for the Nintendo DSTM which recreates the Build-A-Bear Workshop in-store experience. The game allows consumers to enjoy the Build-A-Bear Workshop activities in the same hands-on and do-it-yourself manner found in the retail stores. This level of interactivity is achieved through the use of the Nintendo DS touch screen and wireless technology, enhanced graphics as well as an innovative control mechanism.
NAPPA is the most comprehensive awards program for Children’s Products and Parenting Resources. Their independent panel of judges includes experts in their fields with extensive professional experience working with children and parents. "The Game Factory is honored that the National Parenting Publication Awards have given a 2008 NAPPA Honor to Build-A-Bear Workshop®. For Build-A-Bear Workshop® DS to be selected as one of the best entertainment and innovative products of the year is an outstanding achievement. With so many videogames for the market place for parents to choose from the NAPPA Honor provides an endorsement that helps parents determine the brands that they can trust to deliver a truly positive play experience,” says Leah Kalboussi, VP North America, The Game Factory, Inc. This is a really great example of how a prestige brand successfully translates into the videogame category when you’re committed to creating & delivering a great play experience. Success has been achieved by ensuring that the game is based on the values of the brand as well as children’s favorite characters and experiences in Build-A-Bear stores themselves.
“To date we have sold more than 350,000 units of Build-A-Bear Workshop® DS since its launch in Nov 2007 and expect to exceed the 500,000 early into Q4 of this year.
