The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena Now Available on Mac OS X

April 16, 2010 – Atari, one of the world’s most recognized videogame publishers, is partnering with Virtual Programming to bring the ultimate anti-hero, Richard B. Riddick, to the Mac OS X in the futuristic videogame The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena.
Developed by the acclaimed team at Starbreeze Studios in conjunction with Tigon Studios and Universal Partnerships & Licensing, The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena features a new 11-hour chapter in the Riddick saga with six intense online multiplayer game modes including the unique and thrilling Pitch Black mode. In addition to the full Assault on Dark Athena campaign, the disc includes a stunning HD remastering of the celebrated title The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay.
Escape From Butcher Bay and Assault on Dark Athena are prequels to the movies “Pitch Black” and “The Chronicles of Riddick,” which introduced the popular character to a receptive audience and set the stage for his videogame adventures. Escape From Butcher Bay details Riddick’s attempt to break out of a prison called Butcher Bay, during which he acquires his distinctive eyeshine ability that lets him see in the dark. Assault on Dark Athena finds Riddick unwillingly taken aboard a huge mercenary ship, the Dark Athena.
Both games emphasize stealth combat as Riddick sneaks through a variety of environments and uses any means at his disposal to eliminate enemies. Actor Vin Diesel reprises his film role to voice the main character, and the roster of vocal talent includes such acclaimed actors as Lance Henricksen (“Aliens”), Wade Williams (“Prison Break”), and Michelle Forbes, who brings the same malevolence to Captain Revas, Dark Athena’s captain and Riddick’s main adversary, that she brought to her “Battlestar Galactica” character, Admiral Helena Cain.
Assault on Dark Athena also takes Riddick into the realm of online multiplayer combat for the first time with six modes, including the unique Pitch Black mode, in which grunts armed with flashlights and guns scour a pitch black arena for Riddick; the player who kills Riddick assumes the role for the next round. Mac gamers can play online against Windows PC users, thanks to Virtual Programming’s use of identical networking technology. In addition, Assault on Dark Athena features the same enhanced graphics as the Escape From Butcher Bay remake, as well as improved artificial intelligence.
