Xfire™, the world's top online destination for millions of gamers, unveils Battleground, the first fully automated PC gaming tournament system and competitive gaming platform, in addition to a new website and Xfire 2.0 client. Ten years after the company’s creation, Xfire has become one of the largest PC gaming communities, with nearly 23 million registered users. With this new release, Xfire has taken knowledge gleaned from a decade’s worth of observation of gamer behavior to create a highly evolved and streamlined experience for recreational and competitive gamers around the world.
The Battleground format is simple and easy to use, with three primary modes for gamers: Instant Action, Direct Challenge and Tournaments. Coming soon, players can challenge their friends (or foes) with Direct Challenge, use Tournament mode to participate in sponsored tournaments from Xfire partners, and – for the first time – create and organize their very own tournaments through a full competitive product suite.

Battleground’s Instant Action mode, available now, allows users to jump into a game and begin collecting earned currency, called “Battle Tokens,” through in-game achievements and by performing tasks on Battleground or the Xfire website. Battle Tokens can be used for Direct Challenges and select tournaments or redeemed for sweepstakes entries.
Later this month, Xfire will introduce a complete transactional ecosystem with “X-Coins,” a virtual currency that can be won through tournaments or purchased using PayPal, VISA, MasterCard and American Express. Players will use X-Coin to challenge fellow gamers and compete in skill-based gaming for serious prizes. The more active the player is, the greater opportunity they have to win.
Battleground currently supports Call of Duty 4 and Counter-Strike: Source, with additional titles to be added regularly, including Call of Duty 2, Counter-Strike: Go, World of Tanks, Team Fortress 2, Planetside 2 and District 187.
Changes to the Xfire.com website include redesigned webpages for easier navigation, the addition of an editorial section, which highlights popular news within the videogames industry, and a digital storefront, where players will soon be able to redeem their X-Coin. The Xfire client is getting a new and improved look, but retaining its existing features, including in-game media capture, chat and broadcast features, and soon, posting to social networks – all in a lightweight program that doesn’t interfere with gaming performance.
