Castle Attack 2 is the sequel to Firefly Studios' 2001 mini-game, Castle Attack. Developed in Shockwave® for easy distribution, Castle Attack 2 is a free mini game based on the Stronghold® universe.
Castle Attack 2 borrows some of the gameplay dynamics from Stronghold 2, Firefly's upcoming Castle Sim, but certain things have been altered to make Castle Attack 2 more fun, and stay true to the original Castle Attack. The biggest of these changes is that the enemies in Castle Attack are able to knock down the castle walls with their weapons - Troops in Stronghold 2 will not be able to knock down castle walls in this fashion.
How to Play
Use you archers and your special weapons (Pot of oil, Castle Mangonel and Burning logs) to defend the castle walls from the hordes of enemy attempting to destroy your castle's keep. If your walls fall and your Lord is killed, the battle is lost and the game is over. If you complete construction of the keep, the enemy will retreat and you will claim victory.
Play well, and you will be awarded points. Try to accumulate as many points as possible then submit your score to the world-wide scoreboard and compete with players from around the globe.
For further help on how to play Castle Attack 2, including keyboard controls, check out the 'How to play' section located in the 'Play' menu of Castle Attack 2.
Global Scoreboard
If you score 100,000 points or more when playing Castle Attack 2, you can submit you're score to the global high score table (if you are connected to the Internet). Scores on this table will remain on the table for 20 days before being automatically deleted.
Firefly Studios reserves the right to change the amount of time before the scores are automatically deleted, based on the amount of people who submit scores. The more scores that are submitted to the global highscore table, the quicker they will automatically be deleted, to stop the highscore table becoming 'overcrowded' and taking too long to load.
Quitting the Game
To quit Castle Attack 2, return to the main menu and press the 'Quit' button.
To return to the main menu while playing the game press the Escape key. Be warned, using the Escape key will cause you to start from the beginning of the current game you are playing and your score will be reset.
Known Issues
Installation
To install Castle Attack 2 the user must have local administrator rights to their machine.
The Castle Attack 2 setup program will only install shortcuts for the user who installed the game. To play Castle Attack 2 as another user, run the castleattack2.exe file in the directory where you installed the game (default c:\Program Files\Firefly Studios\Castle Attack 2).
Frame Rate
Castle Attack 2 uses the Shockwave 3D engine, a web-based 3D engine designed to run small 3D applications on the web.
If Castle Attack 2 is running poorly on your system, try using either the 'medium' or 'low' detail version of the game. Also, try to minimize the number of programs you have running in the background while you have the game running.
Sound
Programs running in the background may cause the sound in Castle Attack 2 to stop playing. This happens from time to time when other programs attempt to play a sound effect (for example, the sound of an email being received, or an instant message arriving). When this happens, you will lose all sound effects in Castle Attack 2 until you restart the application.
Keyboard Focus
As with many applications, Castle Attack 2 requires keyboard 'focus' in order for you to interact with the game. If you task switch away from Castle Attack 2, the game may sometimes still have focus, even though you are using another program (for example, a chat program). When this happens, the keyboard will cause things to happen in the game even if you don't have focus (for example, the 'P' key will still pause and un-pause the game).
