Marc Ecko’s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure – Best of the Best

Carefully crafted and masterfully told with over 40 minutes of in-game cutscenes and CG, the intricate story of one writer’s fight against a corrupt society is best experienced rather than heard. Likewise, the unique combination of gameplay elements in Marc Ecko’s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure are hard to get across in words. To fully understand how the game swirls graffiti, platforming, fighting, stealth, and hidden secrets all together, check out these sweet sections.

Going Underground: Subway Ride (Level 2-3)

After learning how to tag subway cars no matter the situation from Cope2, Trane gets to test his newfound skills in an ultimate trial by fire. Jumping on a speeding underground subway, Trane has to spray prime pieces on both sides of three cars. That would be hard enough if it wasn’t for having to dodge low hanging lights and traffic signals that can knock him off, and having to jump from one train to another to avoid being crushed in a narrow tunnel. To top it all off, he’s got less than three minutes to pull it off. No pressure, right?

Still Fake Crew?: New Radius Tunnel (Level 5-1)

Trane’s gained respect for his top-to-bottom subway car murals from everyone but his arch-rival, the leader of the VaNR crew, Gabe. Both Gabe and Trane say they’re better than the other, so they decide to settle it once and for all by doing a Battle Mural. While suspended by a tether on the side of New Radius Tunnel entrance, opposite Gabe, Trane has to paint a mural that tears his opponent to pieces. However, to win he has to finish before Gabe, but he can’t be sloppy! If more than five drips mar his work, he automatically loses. More than anywhere else, this level showcases the finesse and speed required in creating graffiti.

Kids Think They’re Bulletproof: New Radius Freeway (Level 6-1)

When a writer can get up in the highest, most conspicuous, craziest places imaginable, respect and notoriety soon follow. Knowing this, Trane and his partner make a mad dash across the freeway, and then climb a hundred feet in the air over the multi-layered overpass, balancing on the narrow ledges between them and the soon-to-be-tagged road signs and billboards. If Trane can make it to these heaven spots, he’ll have to do his best work so the masses that see them make no mistake at his message. Luckily, a chance run in with propaganda master Obey educates him in the high art of wheat-pasting.

Kids Think They’re Bulletproof: Going For a Tram Ride (Level 6-3)

Trane needs to send a message. A big message! The best way to do that is go large, and the wire suspended gondolas that transport commuters high over the city are the perfect canvas. Unfortunately, the CCK is on to Trane, and he’ll have to finish these top-to-bottom murals under both high elevation and high pressure. With roaming soldiers trying to shoot him down while spotlights point him out, Trane has to leap from tower to gondola, trying to finish his masterwork with bullets flying by him. One wrong move and his career is cut permanently short.

Smoke Out The Rats: SFC Hideout (Level 8-1)

Someone has ratted out Trane to the CCK, tipping them off about his hideout’s location. Seeking to get rid of the thorn that Trane is in their side, they firebomb the entire building. The rest of the Still Free Crew run for the exits right away and make it to safety, but Trane, unwilling to flee without his blackbook, gets blocked off and must find his own way out of the inferno. This level is the best example of the unique platforming moves in Getting Up.

The Revolution Will Be Televised: Bridge Docking Station (Level 10-2)

It’s time for Trane to make an ultimatum against the vile Mayor Sung and his CCK militia. Having already fought his way to the top of the city’s largest and most-used bridge, Trane now flies over the side of it – rope in one hand, paint roller in the other – to spell out Sung’s deceit on the side of the bridge. If he can pull it off, it will be the largest graffiti stunt in history. Unfortunately, the CCK is wise to Trane’s plan and have sent out the heavy artillery. Painting on this scale is never easy, especially with a machine-gun and spotlight equipped helicopter trying to shoot you down. This is the kind of graffiti that goes down in history. This is Trane’s chance to get up to legendary status.
