Zuxxez Entertainment sends word that the official KnightShift website has been updated, showcasing this light-hearted 3D RTS/RPG being developed at Reality Pump Studios. The site offers new design, information and screenshots (also available in our gallery).
KnightShift is a combination of RTS with RPG elements. The game plays in a mystic world with many fantasy elements. The player has the control of wizards, witches, and many other fabulous creatures. We relied on a highly simplified and intuitive construction of the game interface, allowing even beginners to familiarize themselves rapidly with the features of the game and to begin playing without any unnecessary studying of manuals. Another aim was to form as strong a relationship as possible between the player and his characters. To avoid the impression well known from RTS games, that the characters are mere toy-soldiers, easily replaceable by new units, every character in KnightShift is unique, and construction of the story causes the player to attach himself to his characters quickly and permanently. Experience gained by characters, allows them to develop, and equipment gained in battles significantly increases their combat characteristics. Such an approach to the game enables the player to control a small squad, consisting of characters with distinct features - this squad accompanies him from the beginning to the end of the game. This allows the player to plan interesting tactics, which can differ in each game, depending on the characters controlled and their experience. Thanks to this approach the game will not be forgotten after the completion of the campaign, but the player will return to it, searching for new methods of solving the problems Mirko faces. TECHNICAL DETAILS A unique graphic engine has been created for the game. The engine is aimed to make use of the latest achievements in 3D technology. All objects are constructed in spline technology. This means the description of an object is based on mathematical curves, not on a fixed grid. It allows the creation of rounded objects and avoids angularity, so typical for 3D games. All character animations are created based on a skeletal animation system, with character skin stretched onto the skeleton. It enables the creation of smooth animation while keeping the effect of a living object. As for textures, we make use of bump mapping and per pixel specular light mapping technologies. They allow the effect of wood roughness and reflections on metal. GRAPHICAL GAME ENVIRONMENT The game is set in a 3D environment. All characters, buildings and other game elements are created as three-dimensional models. The player is able to move the camera with the freedom of rotation and tilt. NETWORK Network games allow the participation of up to 8 players. Available connection types are: IPX, TCP/IP or WarNet. Internet play is possible using WarNet servers. The servers support chatting with other players, viewing statistics data of other players and playing network games. Every player on the server has his/her own account protected by a password.
