Microsoft has released an updated demo (v1.02d) for Dungeon Siege, the 3D RPG by Gas Powered Games. In this new version, "the duration for blood has been shortened and the flying debris of monsters in combat has been reduced, and in some cases eliminated." The demo offers the first 10% of the game in either single-player or multi-player mode. Source: 3D Gamers. Gamer's Hell Local Download:

This Readme file contains the most recent information concerning the game. It also includes late-breaking information not contained in the manual. A. Setup Issues Known issues regarding the installation of the game are listed in this section. Dungeon Siege Setup Reports Pentium III-M 1GHz and K6-2 350 Through K6-3 550 Processors as Below Minimum Configuration During Setup, if your computer's processor is above 333MHz and you receive the message "Dungeon Siege requires a 333MHz or higher processor. Setup has not detected the required minimum processor, but will continue", click OK to continue. Setup does not detect Speed Step technology (which allows your processor to run at lower power when the processing load is low) but Dungeon Siege will perform normally after installation. Game Fails to Run after Restarting an Incomplete Setup If you interrupt Setup while it is installing files, then return to the Setup menu and rerun Setup again to completion, Dungeon Siege may not start. To resolve this issue, exit Setup completely and rerun Setup from the beginning. Game Fails to Run after Second Install If you reinstall on top of a new installation, the executable file may be corrupted and will prevent Dungeon Siege from starting. To resolve this issue, copy your saved game files to a safe location and uninstall Dungeon Siege, restart the computer, and then reinstall Dungeon Siege. Game Available to All Users in Windows XP Whether or not Install for all users is selected during Setup, all users will have access to the game after Setup. There is no resolution for this issue at the time of the Dungeon Siege release; however, please check http://www.dungeonsiege.com for current game information and the latest updates. Dungeon Siege Requires at Least 200 MB of Swap File to Run. Dungeon Siege requires the Windows swap file to run. If the available memory and swap file size is less than 200 MB you may encounter an error message at startup or "low virtual memory" errors during gameplay. To resolve this issue, increase the swap file size or free drive space on the drive that contains the swap file. B. Demo Notes Notes about the demo are listed below. Reduced Visual and Audio Quality In order to compress Dungeon Siege to a reasonable demonstration size, many textures and sounds have been heavily degraded from the retail version. The differences are most noticeable on high-end systems that have premium sound and graphics. Please note that the retail version of Dungeon Siege may look and sound much better, depending on your system. End of Demo The Kingdom of Ehb map ends at the ruined entrance to Wesrin Cross. This map represents less than 10% of the world that is available in the full retail version of Dungeon Siege. If your demo contains the sample of the Utraean Peninsula map, that map has been trimmed down to the Lord Hovart quest, originating in Elddim (the only starting town available in this demo). This map represents less than 10% of the world that is available in the full retail version of Dungeon Siege. Incompatibility with Other Versions Multiplayer in this version of the demo is not compatible with the retail version of Dungeon Siege. You cannot play a multiplayer game between a computer using this demo and a computer using the full retail version of the game. Single player games saved in this demo are not compatible with the retail version; however, multiplayer characters created in this demo are compatible with the retail version. Windows 98 Gold If you are using Windows 98 Gold, and experience issues with launching the demo or saving game preferences, you may need to update system files. Running shfolder.exe, which can be found in the install folder, or installing IE6 should correct these issues. Version 1.02D of the Dungeon Siege Demo contains the following change: The duration for blood has been shortened and the flying debris of monsters in combat has been reduced, and in some cases eliminated.
