See the ?Game Modes? section for more detail on the various bowling modes. * Open Play Play an exhibition game of bowling. * Skins Play a skins-style match. * Tournament Compete in a single-elimination tournament. * Challenge Test your skill against a series of pre-set challenges. * Golf Bowl on a ?course? of 18 unusual pin configurations. * Practice Improve your skills by practicing the shots you can?t quite nail. * Options Configure sound and game options to your personal taste. Maybe the music?s not loud enough or you?d just like your bowler?s head to be a little larger. * Exit This is how you end the game. Why would you ever want to do this? Game Modes The following game modes are available in Fast Lanes Bowling. You?ll have to learn to play them all if you want to unlock those secret lane variations. Open Play Play an exhibition game of bowling. You choose your character, alley and any opponents. Register up to 4 player-controlled characters for a turn-based multiplayer game, or add CPU-controlled characters for some solo competition. Skins Play a skins-style match against 1 or more opponents. In a skins match, the only bowler to bowl two strikes in a frame takes the skins and the cash that goes with them. After 12 frames, a single-strike sudden death playoff begins. If any player strikes during a sudden death frame, all players that don?t strike are eliminated. The last player standing gets the skins and the cash. 2 to 4 players are allowed, the more players you have, the more money each skin is worth. Tournament Take part in a 5-round single-elimination tournament. Up to 4 bowlers can play against a field of CPU-controlled Pros. Challenge See how far you can get in a series of pre-set challenges. You get 3 tries for each challenge, but you get more points for hitting a challenge on your first or second attempt, so set your shots carefully! Play with up to 4 players and see who can score the most. Golf Bowl on a pre-set ?course? of 18 ?holes? of pins set in unusual configurations. See how you and up to 3 of your friends can fare against par on this tough course. Sorry, no CPU-controlled bowlers are allowed on the links. Practice Brush up on your bowling by setting up your own racks and taking as many shots as you like at them. We?ll even keep track of your stats to let you know if all that hard work is paying off. Practice with up to 3 of your friends and see who the best at picking up that tough split is. Selecting Characters Fast Lanes Bowling features a wide variety of characters to choose from. Each character starts with their own unique set of characteristics, but you may adjust them to your personal taste. For more information on bowler characteristics, read the ?Bowler Characteristics? paragraph in ?Interesting Factoids?. Adding a Bowler to the Game Upon selecting a game mode from the Main Menu, you will be presented with the ?Bowler Setup? screen. Here you may create a new bowler by selecting ?Add Player? on the menu. This will bring up the ?Player Select? wheel, allowing you to choose from any of the 8 Fast Lanes Bowling characters. You may select the bowler on the front of the wheel by left-clicking on their picture or hitting the space bar. The wheel may be rotated to a new character by either using the arrow keys, your mouse wheel, or left-clicking on the character selection box immediately above or below the current character box. Once you have selected a character, the ?Name Entry? screen will appear. You may change your name by selecting the current name off of the menu and using the keyboard to enter your new name. Alternatively, you may use the onscreen letter selection arrows and letter selection wheel with the mouse to enter your name. When finished, either hit the ?Enter? key or selected the ?End? character on the letter selection wheel. You may also use the Name Entry screen to adjust your bowler?s characteristics. Left-click with the mouse or use the left arrow while a characteristic meter is highlighted to remove a point and add it to the ?Free Points? bar above. Right-click with the mouse or use the right arrow while a characteristic meter is highlighted to remove a point from the ?Free Points? bar above and add it to the current characteristics. Saving and Loading your Bowler Once you have finished setting up your character, the ?Save Bowler? menu will appear. Select a bowler page you wish to save to and then select the slot to save the bowler in. You may save over an existing bowler by selecting them from the ?Bowlers? menu after a page is selected. Once a character has been saved over, there is no way to restore it, so be careful. Simply select ?Do Not Save? if you do not wish to add this bowler to your save file. Should you wish to later add an unsaved bowler, you may do so with the ?Edit Bowler? menu entry on the ?Bowler Setup? screen. To load a previously saved bowler, select ?Load Bowler? from the ?Bowler Setup? screen, select the page you wish to load from, and then select the bowler you wish to load. A saved bowler?s statistics are automatically saved during gameplay, you do not ever need to save your bowler again once they have been added to the saved bowler list. Up to 25 bowlers may be saved. Adding a CPU-controlled Bowler To add a CPU-controlled bowler to the game, select ?Add CPU? from the ?Bowler Select? menu. You may then select a character from the character selection wheel (see ?Adding a Bowler to the Game? for details on operating the character selection wheel). Once a CPU-controlled character is selected, you must select a level of difficulty for the CPU-controlled bowler. This will determine their skill level during bowling. Even a good bowler has a bad day and vice-versa, so don?t expect your ?Very Easy? CPU bowler to bowler 135 every game. Deleting a Bowler from the Game To delete a bowler from the current game, select ?Delete Bowler? from the ?Bowler Setup? menu and then select the bowler you wish to remove. Deleting a bowler will remove the selected bowler from the current game, but does NOT remove them from the saved bowler list. Selecting an Alley Once you have set up your bowlers and selected ?Play Game? from the ?Bowler Setup? menu, the ?Stage Selection? screen will appear. To select an alley from the stage selection wheel, you may use the left/right arrow keys, the mouse wheel, or left-click on the stage selection box to the left or the right of the center box to rotate the wheel. You may use the Space Bar or left-click on the center box to select the alley currently pictured in the center of the wheel. Right-clicking on the center box or using the up/down arrow keys will flip the box over to reveal the ?flip side? variation of the alley. There are 6 different alleys to choose from in Fast Lanes Bowling and each has a ?flip side? variation that you must unlock during game play. After you select an alley, game play will begin.
