A 100% DirectX 7.0 or higher compliant 3D video card driver is required.
Heavy Metal: FAKK2 has been tested on many but not all of the major video
cards. Some 3D accelerator card brands utilizing the chipsets whose logos
appear on the box may not be fully compatible with the 3D acceleration features
of Heavy Metal: FAKK2. If your 3D card is not the list, please visit
godgames.com
/ for the latest information.
Heavy Metal: FAKK2 supports the following:
3DFX Voodoo 3 nVidia Riva TNT2 Matrox G400
3DFX Voodoo 4 nVidia GeForce 256 ATI Rage Fury MAXX
3DFX Voodoo 5 nVidia Riva TNT
Please Note: Heavy Metal: FAKK2 does not support "beta", "special purpose",
"reference", or "release candidate" drivers. These drivers are to be used at
the discretion and risk of the end user. Gathering of Developers Customer
Support does not support any of these types of drivers.
Heavy Metal: FAKK2 uses Microsoft DirectX 7 technology, and requires that your
system have the most updated Windows 95/98 DirectX 7 compatible drivers for
CD-ROM, video card, sound card, and input devices.
II. Known Video & Sound Card Issues
Video:
Windows 2000 w/dual displays
Heavy Metal: FAKK2 is not supported Windows 2000 with dual displays.
Nvidia Riva 128 and 128ZX
The latest compatible drivers can be found here:
<
>
Download and install the Riva drivers.
This is an older generation card and may have some minor visual quality issues
as a result. These particular drivers are incompatible with Windows 95.
Windows must be in 16bpp desktop color mode for 3D-hardware acceleration to
work on these chipsets. Please use the display control panel to switch your
color depth to 16bpp if you want 3D acceleration. If you experience problems
with launching the display control panel, you may have parts of a older version
of the drivers still installed. Try uninstalling GLSetup and the older version
of the drivers, then reinstalling GLSetup.
Nvidia Riva TNT, TNT2, TNT2Ultra
The latest compatible drivers can be found here:
<>
Download and install the Detonator drivers.
We know that the drivers included in GLsetup, in most instances, will work very
well with these cards. In addition, make sure that your system is getting
plenty of ventilation. There have been numerous reports from users that have
remedied their lockup problems by simply moving their PC to better accommodate
airflow. You might also want to purchase an internal fan for your system and
make sure that the fan(s) that you have a working properly. There are some
issues with all three of these cards on Windows 95 systems. The TNT on a
Windows95 crashes intermittently and other times can run incredibly slowly in
16bpp mode. Changing the display depth to 32bpp sometimes fixes the
performance problem. If you experiencing any of these problems, you might try
the link to Nvidia's drivers listed above. One last issue that we have been
getting reports on involves the TNT2 and TNT2Ultra on Intel LX chipset
motherboards. It appears that there is a compatibility issue with the two
resulting in frequent lockups. There are no known workarounds for this
problem.
Nvidia GeForce 256
The latest compatible drivers can be found here:
<>
Download and install the Detonator drivers.
There have been reported instances of the GeForce drivers on Windows 95 failing
to render any 3d. This is a known issue and if you are running Windows 95, we
recommend sticking with GLSetup as it will install older, but working, drivers
for your card.
Ati Rage 128 and 128pro
The latest compatible drivers can be found here:
<>
The Rage 128 drivers do not run (or even boot) on the original version of
Windows95. They do run on Win95 OSR2 and Win98.
Ati Rage Pro
The latest compatible drivers can be found here:
<>
This is an older generation card and may have some minor visual quality issues
as a result. The Rage Pro OpenGL sometimes fails to load in high-resolution
mode if your card doesn't have a lot of memory. If you get a failure to load
Heavy Metal FAKK 2, try setting your desktop in a lower resolution mode.

SoundBlaster Live! cards in Windows 2000
Loud/Distorted noise:
With the current SB Live drivers (under Windows 2000), setting 3D sample
volumes does not work properly. This is required for Heavy Metal: FAKK2 to
function correctly. Creative Labs should be releasing new Win2000 drivers to
fix this problem in the next few weeks, until this time, change the sound
driver in the game to software to fix the problem.

III. General Troubleshooting
*** How do I install the game? ***
If the Windows Autoplay feature is enabled on your computer, the Heavy Metal:
FAKK2 Splash screen will automatically appear when you insert the Heavy Metal:
FAKK2 Install CD (CD #1) into your CD-ROM Drive. Simply click on Install and
follow the on-screen instructions to continue the installation.
If the Autoplay is disabled, you can begin the installation by doing the
following:
1. Go to the Start Menu and select Run.
2. Type "D:Setup.exe" (assuming "D" is your CD-ROM drive letter) and
press Enter.
-or-
1. Double click on the My Computer icon.
2. Double click on your CD-ROM drive icon.
3. Double click on "Setup.exe".
*** I installed the game with my CD-ROM, which is on the D: Drive. Can I now
play the game with any other CD-ROM drive on my system? ***
Only if you selected the Typical install option which copies all the game files
to your hard drive.
*** How can I improve performance in the game? ***
There are several things that you can try to improve in-game performance:
1. Turn off all unnecessary programs which may be running in the
background. Prior to launching the game, press CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up a
window, which lists all the programs that are running at this time. Select all
unnecessary programs by clicking on them and then using the "End Task" button
on each. In our experience, the only programs that you will need are "Explorer"
and "Systray". PLEASE NOTE: If you are a novice user, please contact TalonSoft
Customer Support in this procedure.
2. Perform a Maximum install.
3. Have the most up-to-date DirectX 7 compatible drivers for your CD-ROM,
video card, sound card, and input devices installed on your system.
4. Change the Display options in the game which is accessible from the
Main Menu. Try using a lower resolution and color depth like 640 x 480, High
Color 16-bit. You can also try adjusting the Detail Level to Low or Very Low.
5. Turn down the "Effect Detail" in the Advanced Options.
*** My screen saver operates slowly while the game is running. What can I do?
***
Because the game makes heavy use of the system resources, screen savers may
hinder game performance. We highly recommend disabling your screen saver when
playing the game.
To disable:
1. Right click the desktop and select "Properties".
2. Click the "Screen Saver" tab.
3. Set the Screen saver pull down menu to "None".
*** When my computer goes into Sleep mode, the game freezes. ***
Disable the power saver function on your computer to avoid this issue.
To disable sleep mode:
1. Right click on the desktop and select Properties.
2. Click on the Screen Saver tab.
3. Click on the Settings button.
4. Set all of the power saver settings to "None" and then click on apply.
*** Where do I go for game updates and/or patches? ***
You may check Gathering of Developers' web page for updates at:
m/
If you are uncertain of a game update and/or patch, please E-mail all questions
to our internet mailing address at:
support@godgames.com
Please note, this service is provided in English only.
*** The game is not recognizing the CD but it is in my CD ROM Drive. ***
1. Make sure that the CD-ROM is running 32 bit CD ROM drivers. You may
have older 16-bit CD-ROM drivers which need to be replaced with newer 32 bit
drivers. To check, go to the Windows control panel and select SYSTEM, then
PERFORMANCE. If it doesn't say "32-bit" next to FILE SYSTEM, you should update
your drivers. To do so, contact the manufacturer of your computer or of your
CD-ROM.
2. Turn off all background programs just in case there is a conflict. Use
CTRL-ALT-DEL keys and End task on all programs except "Explorer" and "Systray".
Make sure that the CD can play music.
3. Insert a music CD into your CD ROM drive, and make sure that music can
be played with the CD Player (to access the CD Player, just go to Start ->
Programs
-> Accessories -> Entertainment -> CD Player). If you are not able to play any
music then your CD-ROM is not configured properly to play CD music and the game
will not work as a result.
*** When I'm playing the game and I insert an Autoplay enabled CD, Autoplay
doesn't run. Why? ***
This is by design. In order to prevent the operating system from starting
another application when you insert an Autoplay CD, Heavy Metal: FAKK2 disables
Autoplay while it is running. If you have Autoplay turned on , your system will
run Autoplay CD's again when you exit Heavy Metal: FAKK2.
*** Can I install the game to a compressed hard drive? ***
We do not recommend installing this program to a compressed drive. Please
install to a non-compressed drive and run the program from there.
*** I have a AMD K6 processor, and I am experiencing problems during
installation. ***
Heavy Metal: FAKK2 is optimized for Intel Processors. The game has not been
tested on AMD K6 processors and is not supported by Gathering of Developers
Customer Support.
*** I have a Cyrix 6x86 (or other Cyrix processor), and Heavy Metal: FAKK2
won't run, or performs poorl.y ***
Heavy Metal: FAKK2 is optimized for Intel Processors. The game has not been
tested on Cyrix processors and is not supported by Gathering of Developers
Customer Support.
*** I have a NexGen Pentium compatible processor, and Heavy Metal: FAKK2 won't
run, or performs poorly. What do I do? ***
There are no NexGen Processors that are within the minimum system requirements
for this game.
*** Will a virus checker affect the way Heavy Metal: FAKK2 installs? ***
Due to a large number of files in the game installation, users of Norton
AntiVirusr and other virus checking programs may experience extremely long
install times if the virus checking program is active when installing the game.
If this is the case, then (1) you can scan the CD for viruses (for your peace
of mind), then (2) disable your virus checker, then (3) install Heavy Metal:
FAKK2, and then (4) re-enable your virus checker.
*** I have gotten stuck in the game. How can I skip past it? ***
If you have gotten to a point and are stuck, or a bug is preventing you from
getting to the next level, you can skip on to the next level of the game by
following this procedure:
1. In the game, go to the Audio / Video -> Advanced menu, and check the
Console option.
2. Press "Apply Changes".
3. Press the tilde (~) key to pull down the console.
4. Type in "map " where is replaced by the name of the
level you want to go to.
5. Type in "exec " where is replaced by the
name of the level you want to go to.
The levels in Heavy Metal: FAKK2 are as follows:

*** I've run into some problems with my video display. What should I do? ***
We suggest that you run GLSetup from the Heavy Metal: FAKK2 CD-ROM. It is
recommended that you use the drivers in GLSetup because they have been tested
with the game. If you download the latest drivers from a hardware manufacturer
it is not guaranteed that they will work correctly.
*** The sound doesn't appear to be working correctly. What can I do to fix
this? ***
There are many reasons why your sound system may not be performing the way that
it should. We suggest that you try the following:
Make sure that the Windows Driver Sound Settings are set to the correct speaker
type. In Windows 98;
1. Click on Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.
2. Double click the Multimedia icon.
3. On the "Audio Tab" in the "Playback" section, click "Advanced
Properties".
4. Make sure that the "Speaker Setup" information is correct.
If you are using EAX, EAX2 or A3D and it is not working, you can try updating
your drivers, or run the game using software mode.
*** I'm running a Windows NT 4 machine. When I change the color depth in Heavy
Metal: FAKK2, the game slows down. What should I do? ***
You may want to exit and restart Heavy Metal: FAKK2. Sometimes NT4 systems will
slow down after switching your color depth, but this goes away after restarting
the game.
*** Help! I used to be able to play Heavy Metal: FAKK2, but I changed a feature
in the game, and now it won't start. ***
You may want to try running the "Safe Mode" version of the game.
***I've got two video cards in my system, a 3dfx Voodoo2 based card and another
2d/3d card. How do I pick which one Heavy Metal: FAKK2 will use?***
You need to go into the "Advance Options" menu in Heavy Metal: FAKK2, and
select 3dfxVoodooGL for Voodoo 1 and 2 based cards, or OpenGL for other cards.
***Where can I get the latest drivers for my sound card?***

***I have an Aureal Vortex sound card. Where can I get the latest drivers?***
Aureal Vortex Drivers:
At the time of this writing, Aureal is in a state of transition. If
you need Aureal reference drivers, or drivers for a sound card which is based
on the Aureal Vortex or Vertex 2 chipset, the best source would be the sound
