  • Voodoo Extreme is reporting that Dwayne Johnson ("The Rock") will starring in the upcoming Doom III movie which is now in the works at Universal Studios, because Warner Brothers's option on the project expired (story).

  • NovaLogic, Inc. and Vivendi Universal Games announced an exclusive multi-year strategic agreement, under which VU Games will become the sole distributor of NovaLogic products in North America. NovaLogic will continue to oversee development, production, marketing and PR for its products. The agreement covers all current and upcoming NovaLogic products and is effective July 9, 2004. This includes the recently launched Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising.
  • Day 1 Studios, creators of MechAssault and MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf announced that Jon Kimmich has joined the company as Producer and Director of Business Development. "Kimmich’s 15+ years spent at Microsoft Game Studios (MGS) have given him a deep understanding of both the creative and business sides of game development. At Day 1, one of Kimmich’s first and key responsibilities will be to leverage his proven track record in selecting and cultivating successful game franchises to lead a Day 1 development team in the creation of a next generation console title".
  • Paramount Pictures announced the release of The Manchurian Candidate Voice Recognition game based on highly anticipated psychological thriller movie expected in theaters in July 30. "Contestants can register at www.manchuriangame.com, the official movie web site, www.ManchuricanCandidateMovie.com, or at Kyocera’s www.SliderStyle.com for a chance to win an exclusive screening of the new movie in their hometown or a Kyocera Slider SE47 wireless phone. The game begins July 7 and will conclude July 28. All players will be entered into a sweepstakes for the Grand Prize of a special screening of “Manchurian Candidate” and a Kyocera Slider SE47 phone. Additionally, another 50 entrants will receive their own Kyocera Slider SE47".
  • We were informed that over 300 companies has already committed to attend European Games Network ( "the industry facing event for everyone in the business of games") and the brand new consumer event, Game Stars Live. Game Stars Live will take place over five days at the tail end of the summer holiday period 2004 at ExCeL, the state-of-the-art exhibition site in London's docklands from 1st – 5th September 2004. It sits alongside trade-facing show, European Games Network, and new creative-focused event, European Developers' Forum: The Interactive Entertainment Conference, both of which run Wednesday 1st – Friday 3rd September 2004. European Games Network's mix of components will include The Market Place, a show floor of exhibition space with no free build; The Waterfront Rooms, a series of over 60 dedicated meeting suites for private meetings and product presentations; The EGN Lounge, an area dedicated to delegates for meetings; The Conference and Workshop Programme and the TIGA International Content Market, an exclusive area for developers backed by industry body TIGA.
