Stardock has launched a new website for its upcoming space-based strategy game, Galactic Civilizations. GalCiv.com is designed to allow players to interact with the game’s development team and provide input during the beta and other release phases. Galactic Civilizations has a target release date of fall 2002.
Galactic Civilizations was originally written as an OS/2 game. And here in 2002, it's being recreated from scratch as a state of the art Windows game. A few FAQs about the site: 1) The Metaverse section is not open yet and won't be open for some months. 2) The general beta will not be available for some months and only then to users of Drengin.net (http://www.drengin.net). 3) The "pre-beta" will be available in the first week of April to alpha testers as well as a few people selected largely based on their participation in the forums. We really want to create a community in which the users are empowered to have a great deal of say in the game's direction. 4) There is nothing to download yet. 5) The library will be a place where users can submit their own ships, technologies, improvements, etc. One doesn't have to be a techie to create this. Often times adding something is just a matter of creating a .PCX file and editing a text file or pointing towards an existing ship model.
