1. Phoenix Online Publishing and Pelgrane Press will offer fans of Lovecraftian horror games a free novella inspired by the adventure game The Last Door. For the month of August, all new subscribers to Phoenix Online's newsletter will receive a free PDF of The Five Arches. This prequel story to The Last Door is written by by David Conyers, author of more than fifty short stories, including an on-going Lovecraftian sci-fi espionage series. The PDF also includes discount codes for $5 off at the Pelgrane Press webstore, and 20% off The Last Door: Collector’s Edition at the Phoenix Online Store.

2. PlayOn, the streaming app from MediaMall Technologies, is available now for the PlayStation 4 system. PlayOn brings more than 100 online channels to the TV via the PS4 including YouTube and HBO GO. The app also lets users access other popular channels like Netflix, Hulu (no Hulu Plus subscription needed), CBS and Comedy Central and bookmark virtually any video in their PC browser to watch later on their TV.

3. Activision Publishing and Bungie have unveiled that 4,638,937 unique players have played the Destiny Beta, which began first on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 on July 17 and came to a close last Sunday.

4. The Karui Way, the first issue of the official Path of Exile comic series, is now available for purchase being offered in ePub, PDF, Mobi, and CBZ (Comic Book Reader) formats, Grinding Gear Games announced. The next three issues are scheduled to release monthly following the first issue's debut, and the entire series will ultimately be compiled as a full-color, printed graphic novel, which will be published by Dynamite Entertainment, in early 2015. Additionally, each issue will be available as part of an optional bundle containing an exclusive in-game bonus for players of Path of Exile, such as cosmetic armor effects, among other surprises. The standalone issues and bundles will be priced at $4.00 and $20.00 USD respectively.

5. Reloaded Games has launched the "Open Conflict" update for APB Reloaded introducing the anti-cheat solution FairFight, a new Open Conflict game mode, new matchmaking options and several general game enhancements.

6. Five-person indie developer Grimm Bros announced that Dragon Fin Soup will be featured at gamescom as part of the IndieMEGABOOTH from August 13-17th. Since being Greenlit on Steam and funded through Kickstarter last Spring the game has only been shown off once before, at PAX East.

7. Cliffhanger Productions Games has announced that the v2.0 of its speed-chess-meets-MOBA, cross-platform game ÆRENA will be showcased at gamescom 2014, on the ESL Twitch stage in Hall 9.1.

8. Square Enix has confirmed that tickets to its first ever Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival are now available for sale to the general public. The European event will be held at London’s Tobacco Dock on 25th October 2014, with similar festivals also being held in Tokyo and Las Vegas on different dates.

9. The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) in partnership with Video Games Intelligence (VGI) announced additional speakers for the 2nd Annual D.I.C.E. Europe (#DICE2014) conference, which takes place Sept. 23-24, 2014 at the Royal Garden Hotel in London.

10. Over 20 million unique online viewers dialed in to catch The 2014 International Dota 2 Championships, Valve announced. The peak concurrent online viewer number for this year's event was well over 2 million, more than doubling last year's peak.

11. GOG.com announced Games from Paris, a special promo that celebrates the highlights of French game-making new and old, with titles that have changed the gaming industry and recent successful releases. The sale will run until Sunday, August 3, at 9:59AM GMT.

12. Broken Envelope Productions has announced the launch of Flootball.com, a new fantasy football site that adds gamer-friendly stats and loot to the classic fantasy football formula. Team owners add various items like helmets, jerseys, cleats, and more to the players on their fantasy roster. Each item has an RPG-style influence on a player's performance, providing a boost to fantasy points as well as customization and tweaking options familiar to every gamer.
