  • The Hollywood Reporter has word that actor Karl Urban (The Bourne Supremacy, The Chronicles of Riddick, The Two Towers and The Return of the King) has been cast in the lead role of John Grimm in the upcoming DOOM movie.

  • Microsoft announced the Xbox Live Backstage Pass Sweepstakes featuring Halo 2, which will give 20 lucky winners from around the world the chance to play Halo 2 multiplayer before November 9, 2004, its North American release date. In order to be eligible for the sweepstakes, gamers must have a valid Xbox Live account as of October 15. Winners will be drawn on October 22 and will receive a three-day/two-night trip for the winner and one guest to Bungie Studios in Redmond, Washington to play Halo 2 multiplayer.   • Aspyr Media informed us that the Mac version of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell has gone gold and will begin shipping September 27, arriving in North American stores October 2. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell requires Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later, PowerPC G4/G5, 867 MHz or faster, 256MB RAM (512 recommended), 1.7GB hard drive space, 32MB of VRAM, and DVD drive required to install and play.   • GameIndustry.biz is reporting that a redesigned version of Sony's PlayStation 2 console, dubbed PStwo, could launch in the USA next month alongside GTA: San Andreas, according to a report in the US entertainment press citing industry analysts and retailers. The new version of the console would be around 30 per cent smaller than the current hardware and is expected to be launched on October 26th at a $149 price point.
