Gameplay ----------- - The first real-time Empire Conquering Simulation. - The game's mix of Real Time Strategy and out-and-out Wargame provides something for all kinds of players, bringing in a much-needed simulation element. - Think on your feet because the decision of how you conquer Europe is at last thrust into your own hands. - The Knights are the most important element of the game and with them you will fight wars, manage provinces and secure trade agreements with the other rulers. Think of the Knights as a finite resource, after all you have limited slots to fill with these powerful, brave and bold men. - You can fight, trade, make peace and alliances to achieve your goal while building up a successful Kingdom using the Knights in a variety of roles while other rulers are doing exactly the same. - In the demo you will play in the High Medieval time period - about 1200 AD during an age rife with conquest and confrontation. - Each period represents a milestone in the medieval ages and comes with its own trials and tribulations; the Kingdom you choose affects the difficulty and challenge of the game. Your economic and social situations, province sizes and how the rest of the world reacts towards you will be totally different. - In Knights of Honor your goal is simple - become the Emperor of all Europe by fair means or foul. But keep in mind that you are not playing in a static environment and the rest of Europe is vying for the same, so you will be inundated with requests or threats from fellow rulers as well as numerous agreements and perhaps even special missions. ------------------- 2. DirectX9.0c and supported hardware It is highly recommended that you ensure that your computer's components are utilising the most recent DirectX 9.0c compatible software drivers. Please consult your card manufacturer for their newest drivers. If you experience issues installing DirectX to your computer, try the following: The two most common causes for the installation hanging when DirectX tries to initialize itself is lack of hard disk space and problems with your video and sound card drivers. While DirectX itself doesn't take up that much hard disk space, you must compensate for the fact that Windows is using some hard disk space for virtual memory (a swap file). Get information from Microsoft on DirectX. http://www.microsoft.com/directx ------------------ 7. Troubleshooting ------------------ Known Issue: King of Towers - In the King of Towers Multiplayer mode if any player builds a new tower it will be invisible and if attacked will cause the game to crash. Computer hardware manufacturers are constantly updating their driver software so that their hardware can play the latest software programs with the best possible performance. If your system is not using the latest driver please consider obtaining an updated driver. Doing this may also give you benefits such as increased performance, the elimination of a technical problem and new component features. Well known video card manufacturers that will have updated drivers available are: Intel: www.intel.com nVidia: www.nvidia.com ATI: www.ati.com Matrox: www.matrox.com PowerVR: www.powervr.com S3: www.s3graphics.com XGI: www.xgitech.com 3DLabs: www.3dlabs.com - We strongly advise that you have the latest motherboard chipset software drivers installed. These are periodically updated drivers that provide enhanced chipset support under Microsoft Windows operating systems. Having these drivers installed can improve performance, fix issues, and minimize any incompatibilities that you may experience. The most common manufacturers of motherboard chipsets are below and you will find updated drivers on their websites: Direct HTML links as of the date of this readme are: Intel: http://www.intel.com/design/software/drivers/platform/inf.htm Via: http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=403 Homepages are: INTEL : www.intel.com VIA : www.viaarena.com - Background tasks such as Anti-Virus and Crash Guard programs can use up valuable system resources. We recommend closing these before running Knights of Honor(TM) DEMO. NB: Do not click on End Process for any of the processes listed below: System Idle Process System winlogon.exe services.exe svchost.exe spoolsv.exe csrss.exe hidserv.exe MSTask.exe WinMgmt.exe taskmgr.exe IEXPLORE.EXE Explorer.EXE Also please ensure that you re-enable background tasks after playing the game or they will remain unavailable. - If you find that you are experiencing performance issues please ensure that you follow the below tips: . Run ScanDisk (Win98/ME)/Error-Checking (Win 2000/XP) to detect and repair disk errors and bad sectors on your hard drive . Run Disk Defragmenter to ensure that the data on your hard drive is organised properly. . Run Disk Cleanup to clear unnecessary files from your system. Consult the Windows Help Guides for information on running the above tools. Windows Help can be accessed by clicking on the Start button and selecting Help (or Help and Suppport for Windows XP) . Ensure that your video card has the latest drivers by visiting your card manufacturer's website. If there is no improvement then download the latest driver from the chipset manufacturer's website. . If you are experiencing choppy or stuttering sound then download and install the latest driver for your soundcard from the soundcard manufacturer's website. . Experiment with your in-game Preferences options. . Reconfigure your initial settings by selecting Start/Programs/Black Sea Studios/Knights of Honor(TM)/Configure Knights of Honor(TM) - Task switching is not fully supported while running Knights of Honor(TM) DEMO. If you use the Alt-Tab, CTRL+ALT+DEL or other Windows functions, then you may experience issues. -------------- 8.
