Gathering of Developers and Epic Games Ship Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Nationwide Highly Acclaimed Side-Scroller Game is First Title to Debut from The Gathering Dallas, TX, August 12, 1998 -- Gathering of Developers, a developer-driven computer and video game publishing company, today announced that Jazz Jackrabbit 2, an action-packed, side-scrolling, arcade-style PC game, has shipped to stores nationwide and has a suggested retail price of .95. Jazz Jackrabbit 2 was co-developed by Epic Games, a founding partner of The Gathering and the creator of the acclaimed computer game Unreal, and Orange Games, a Netherlands-based development company. The Jazz Jackrabbit 2 CD-ROM includes the full version of the best-selling, award-winning 1994 shareware hit Jazz Jackrabbit. The sequel continues the adventures of the wacky green rabbit Jazz and his struggles to stop the mean turtle Devan Shell from bringing harm and disarray to Jazz’s world. Prima Games, the world's leading publisher of strategy guides, is distributing The Official Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Strategy Guide, to time with the game’s release. "We have experienced an incredibly warm reception from both the editorial and retail community for our debut title, Jazz Jackrabbit 2,” said Mike Wilson, CEO of The Gathering. “Jazz 2 has received universally great reviews and has been called the best game in its genre. Our retail partners have been fantastic in embracing us as a new publisher and have offered us special promotions because they strongly believe in our support of our developers and our upcoming titles.” The Gathering is supporting Jazz Jackrabbit 2 with a major retail marketing campaign including print and online advertisements, as well as in-store promotions aimed towards both the casual and core gamer audiences. The company has targeted high-circulation family-oriented publications such as Disney Magazine and Nickelodeon Magazine, as well as traditional PC gaming publications as part of its marketing efforts. The gaming press is already applauding the return of Jazz Jackrabbit. PC Gamer’s September issue states, “From the first level to the final end-level boss, Jazz 2 is a slick, creative, and addictive romp... Jazz 2 is an amazing value that you can pick up and play for a few minutes at a time or for hours on end.” GamePower, CMP’s online gaming site, said "As it stands, Jazz Jackrabbit 2 is an excellent offering regardless of age, making it clear that games still can be great fun without all the gratuitous violence and nudity that have become so prevalent in this industry.” GameBuyer Magazine September issue urges its readers to “Buy It!” Storyline In Jazz Jackrabbit 2, gamers jump into a cool animated world with the wacky green rabbit Jazz and his crazy brother Spaz, and take on a bevy of dangerous turtles, bats and other enemies. The game centers on Jazz and his archenemy Devan Shell, who has stolen the wedding ring of Jazz’s future wife, Eva Earlong. With the ring, Devan will be able to complete his top-secret time machine, go back in time and make sure Jazz is never born. And, without the ring, Jazz won’t be able to marry Eva.
