Read the full article for more details about the realms, characters, and more.
PRIMAL GAME OVERVIEW The Demon Realms of Oblivion Solum This is a land of eternal night and eternal winter. It is the bleak home to a demon race known as the Ferai. The Ferai The Ferai are rugged hunters, fierce in appearance and character, but with a society that while clan-like and brutal also demonstrates structure and art. Pivotal to Ferai society is the King. This figure possesses huge power and influence during his reign, but must sacrifice himself at the height of his potency, passing his throne over to his heir. Failure for this to occur will have a drastic effect on the nature order of the entire kingdom... The Ferai are a violent people, but are fundamentally a good race, aligned with Order. Ferai backplot In the Ferai kingdom, the king's heir has been kidnapped. Stricken with rage and grief, he has refused to give up his rule: the natural order has been broken... ...The realm has been wracked by Earthquakes. Unbeknownst to the king, his wife has been replaced by a Chaos created duplicate. She has murdered the real Queen, turned his people against him, and holds his son captive. Main Characters Herne - Ferai King. Devena - Ferai Queen. Jared - Ferai heir, son of Herne and Devena. Aquis Aquis is water filled realm. The skies are the golden hues of an everlasting sunset, but the waters themselves are poisonous to all but the vast sea monsters and exotically evolved life within them. Nevertheless, through use of specially crafted machinery, a hardy people have established an underwater community. The Undine Living in coastal lagoons and a walled off bay, the Undine are an intelligent and graceful aquatic race, able to communicate telepathically. They are completely dependent upon a complex system of machines that filter and purify the waters around them. A sea wall keeps out the huge monsters that swim in the waters beyond. The Undine are an elegant and cultured people, aligned with Order. Aetha The Aetha realm is a place of mountain peaks and clouds. The mountainsides are so steep and treacherous that its inhabitants are forced to live solely on the plateaus and peaks jutting above cloud level. The Wraith There are two factions to Wraith society: aristocrats and peasants. While all Wraith are ugly and fearsome in appearance, it is only the aristocrats who are truly evil. They lead a life of indulgence and vice, throwing extravagant banquets and decadent masked-balls while the peasants live in squalor. Volca Volca is a scorched, barren desert, dominated by a single feature: a vast volcano. The interior of the volcano is a network of chambers and tunnels housing a fire-loving race. The Djinn The djinn are a mysterious, magical people. Their bodies are formed from living metal, their lives in tune with the volcano: while it is dormant they are weakest, as it builds towards eruption they are at their most active and empowered. All djinn are physically and magically strong, but their leader is also immortal. As a consequence their society is like a vicious, back-stabbing royal court: everyone aspires to be the regent. Character Profiles Jen Background Seized from her home as a baby. Her parents were killed during this abduction. Her soul was tainted by Abaddon... She became part demon. Not very well educated (part rebel/part poor opportunity), but sharp and quick learning. Now lives with Lewis in a cheap rented apartment, they lead a hand to mouth existence. Works as a waitress in a trendy coffee bar, her motivation to pay her way through college. 20 years old. Personality Outwardly easy going, relaxed, optimistic. Rebellious and stubborn when pushed. Dry sense of humour. Confident, self-assured. Motivations Initially she is interested only in finding Lewis. She only half believes that the world around her is real. Until the first time she 'dies' in the game (her spirit returned to her body from where Scree must quickly revive her), she acts as though the whole experience is some kind of crazy dream. She starts to take the quest and her central role in it seriously only after her first meeting with Abaddon and the first time she is able to shift into demon form... ...From this point she shares Scree's motivations, especially once she sees what Lewis has become. Ultimately she longs to return to the real world and her life with Lewis. Jen's quest leads her into each of the four kingdoms. The two good kingdoms have been thrown into Chaos and weakened: Jen must help to restore the natural order. The evil kingdoms have been strengthened: Jen must redress the balance. In each kingdom, Jen will meet significant non-player characters, some friendly, others hostile. She will acquire the ability to transform into each of the demon races. She will become a powerful combatant using energy weapons associated with each form even as the demon transitions start to threaten her humanity. Scree Background Was once the huge, powerful demon Abdizur. Since his transition to Scree form, Scree has used his small and innocuous appearance to function as a spy. Personality The same voice and personality as Abdizur, just in a smaller package! Calm, clear-headed, practical. Occasionally excitable. Confident, experienced, knowledgeable. Spiritual. He treats his mission as would a knight on a holy crusade. Noble and proud. Sometimes a little too self assured... ...Occasionally embarrassed when his plans don't quite work out as hoped. Consistently frustrated by the limits of his gargoyle form. Initially he contains this, but it simmers away throughout the game and boils over in a couple of instances. Motivations To prevent Chaos from taking over: to serve his 'Goddess'. To inform, guide, and insofar as he is able, protect Jen. To ensure that Jen does what is necessary to help Arella. Abaddon (Chaos) Abaddon is the embodiment of chaos. He is a godlike, immortal character. He possesses no fixed physical form, but is able to manifest himself through natural elements. (For example we may see Abaddon's face form from the swirling embers of a fire or from a buzzing swarm of flies.) Arella (Order) Arella is the embodiment of order. Like Abaddon, she is immortal and has no physical form. She is able to manifest herself through natural elements, e.g. we may see her face form from a swarm of butterflies. Chaos and Order are in eternal conflict, but possess equal and opposite powers. Their powers are drawn from the worlds and peoples of Oblivion whose energies exist in balance. Solum and Aquis are realms aligned to Order, providing Arella with power. Aetha and Volca are realms aligned with Chaos, providing Abaddon with power. The balance of power between Order and Chaos is governed by an impartial character... Chronos Chronos is a living part of a huge, ancient machine known as the Oracle. Its purpose is to regulate and control the primal energies. He is a silent, isolated character carrying a huge weight of responsibility on his shoulders. Abaddon conceived a way to end his age long conflict with Arella by breaking down order and extending chaos throughout Oblivion. He abducted two human babies from Mortalis, and tainted their souls... Once fully grown, they will have the ability to take on the form and strength of demons while retaining their mortality... - They will be able to travel between all the realms of Oblivion. - They will possess the power to destroy otherwise immortal characters (watch out Chronos). Having learnt of his plans, Abdizur was able to snatch the babies back from Abaddon... ...He returned them to Mortalis, hiding them away so that Abaddon should never find them. ...But Abdizur was captured and imprisoned by Chaos. He was tortured and broken, yet refused to reveal the babies' whereabouts. ...Taking the only opportunity available to him, by sheer force of will, Abdizur projected himself into the form of a nearby statue and was able to escape. ...He returned to Arella, and trapped in diminutive statue form, became Scree, a 'pet' of the goddess. Aside from Arella, no-one knows that Scree is in fact Abdizur. His original body, itself turned to statue, stands lifeless awaiting the return of his soul. Belahzur Belahzur is a fearsome demonic creature. He is general of the armies of Chaos, the right-hand 'man' (or rather, monster) of Abaddon. Abdizur Abdizur is a powerful but good demon. He is general of the armies of Order, loyal servant of Arella. For the majority of Primal we see Abdizur in a different form...Jen's quest leads her into each of the four kingdoms. The two good kingdoms have been thrown into Chaos and weakened. Jen must help to restore the natural order. The evil kingdoms have been strengthened: Jen must redress the balance.
