Less than 24 hours after
Nintendo UK's general manager David Yarnton states that there will be no DS redesign at this years E3,
Nintendo of Japan announces the
Nintendo DS Lite which seems to be the expected
Nintendo DS redesign. Why the two branches of
Nintendo are contradicting each other is unclear at the moment, but we can assume that
Nintendo of Japan is correct in announcing the
Nintendo DS Lite. An announcement which apparently came directly from
Nintendo's president
Satoru Iwata. We will keep you posted as usual as this develops.
The new
Nintendo DS Lite will arrive as a 133mm wide, 73.9mm high and 21.5mm deep handheld, with apparent similarities to
Nintendo's upcoming console codenamed
Revolution. The
DS Lite will be 42% smaller and 21% lighter than the original
DS. The
DS Lite will offer four levels of backlight brightness and some aesthetical differences like moving the power button to the side of the handheld and the microphone to the middle of the hinge. The
DS Lite will launch March 2nd in Japan at a price of 16,800 Yen (approximately 118 euro). Check out the gallery for the first ever three pictures of the
DS Lite!
