Coming Friday: Operation Flashpoint Resistance

Codemasters announced that Operation Flashpoint: Resistance (the newest expansion to the series) will be released this friday. New features to the game include a new campaign, improved graphics and more.
Operation Flashpoint: Resistance – advancing and enhancing the world of the number one best selling war simulator. From Bohemia Interactive Studio, the creators of Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis, comes Operation Flashpoint: Resistance, the official expansion pack for the multiple Game of the Year award winner and world-wide number one best-seller. Launching on June 28th, with a RRP of £19.99, this full expansion to the ultimate realistic war simulator introduces a new island environment with remarkable high-resolution textures and models to take full advantage of the latest 3D graphics cards. Expanding the Flashpoint universe, Operation Flashpoint: Resistance creates an additional 100km2 island complete with industrial-style buildings and original landscape scenery. Requiring the original game to play, Operation Flashpoint: Resistance immerses players in a new campaign, with intriguingly different play style, that forms a prequel to the original game’s plot and is set years before Operation Flashpoint’s Cold War hit crisis point. Operation Flashpoint: Resistance casts the player as Victor Troska, an experienced ex-Special Forces soldier. Having turned his back on his military past, Troska has settled into a respectable civilian life on the island of Nogova, a short distance from the original game’s three islands. However, his situation changes when the Soviet force invades the island group and destroys Troska's idyllic dreams of a peaceful retirement. Reluctant at first to return to a conflict situation, he is forced to participate in, and then lead, the ramshackle Resistance effort, which grows up in response to the Soviet occupation of the island. Playing as a resistance soldier offers a unique experience, as gamers have to scavenge for weapons and equipment. As the game is played in a time before the US Army and its resources came to the islands, players have to scavenge equipment from whatever sources they can manage. Gamers take the role of Troska throughout Resistance and the all the events in the campaign are closely linked. As players progress, the amount of equipment, ammunition and fellow soldiers persists from one mission to another. Tactical use of supplies comes into play as gamers attempt to grow forces through gaining new recruits and gathering equipment, in order to build an army powerful enough to repel the Soviets. In addition to the new campaign, the expansion offers enhanced network code, incorporating an in-game server browser system and completely overhauled communication code for better multiplayer performance. Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis has shipped over one million copies. The game won Bohemia Interactive Studio the “Best PC Game Developer Award” in Europe’s ECTS Awards last year and Resistance is set to continue their envied reputation. Operation Flashpoint: Resistance requires the original game to play and is set to launch on June 28th for PC CD-ROM with a RRP of £19.99 (ELSPA Age Rating: 15+). ABOUT OPERATION FLASHPOINT Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis is the ultimate realistic war experience, which draws the player into a deeply believable military environment. For the first time in such a game, the player controls and commands not just soldiers and squads of all levels but also land, sea and air vehicles – both military and civilian – from cars, to APCs, to tanks and even military helicopters. It is a game of complete freedom with military crisis situations to handle on your own initiative. Once past the mission briefing stage, it’s the player’s decision how the overall mission or campaign is tackled. This variety also allows players to dip in and out of all kinds of action gameplay from commanding a squad, to driving tanks, troop carriers, piloting a helicopter to taking on the role of a sniper. Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis was released for PC CD-ROM June 2001 and became an international number one best-seller.
