Mindware Studios just announced Cold War, an action-adventure game focusing on the cold war between the Soviet Union and the western world. The games atmosphere promises to be quite realistic as it will feature realistic locations, such as the Red Square or Chernobyl.
American reporter Chaser Jones takes on the KGB in communist Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War. Summary Chaser Jones, a journalist for a large American newspaper, is as much a newsman as Indiana Jones is an archeologist. Part bloodhound, investigative journalist, war correspondent and adventurer, Chaser always winds up in the middle of the action, putting his life on the line to grab the 'scoop' before it grabs him. This time, on the trail of a hot story, Chaser arrives right in the middle of the communist USSR at the height of the Cold War. While there, he comes across a plot to sabotage the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, but soon discovers that Chernobyl is just the beginning. He's on the trail of a far-reaching conspiracy, which might be too much for one journalist to handle. During his dangerous adventures, Chaser has to draw on all his abilities and experience gained during previous assignments. Among them, stealth plays a leading role: Chaser is able to move quietly and furtively, he can slip behind enemies unnoticed, ducks for cover behind various objects, hides in the shadows. He knows how to disable alarms, pick locks or confound security cameras. When he gets into a tight spot he's good with his gun, though he'd much rather try avoiding and outsmarting the enemy than come face to face with them. Chaser's investigations take him to places such as Chernobyl and Baikonur, where he must summon all his strength, not just to get his scoop, but merely to survive. Absorbing Story and Cold War settings The player will be absorbed by this gripping story of American reporter Chaser Jones, played out against the backdrop of a ferocious Cold War. Chernobyl, Baikonur, Red Square - this is the world behind the Iron Curtain, a world of a totalitarian Soviet Union at a time when tensions between the USA and the USSR are mounting. Prowling & hiding The enemy has numerical superiority. Moving stealthily and cautiously, the player has to avoid being spotted, by ducking for cover and hiding himself in the shadows. Interactive environment The player can use the surrounding environment to his advantage. If he doesn't succeed in slipping past security cameras, he has to try disabling them. If he has a pick, he can break a lock and open up a safer route for himself. If he knows that the enemy is approaching via elevator, he can attempt to block it. The player has the chance to look for alternative routes - by jumping across roofs, sneaking through ventilation shafts, or balancing on ledges. Enemies Different strategies work for different types of enemy. You can run away from a slow soldier, you can confuse a dog with pepper, you can eliminate a soldier wearing night-vision goggles with a flash grenade. By observing the enemy and understanding his behavior, a player discovers newer strategies for outfoxing him. Weapons and equipment The player can use equipment that enables him to solve various problems using a variety of methods. When it's dark, he can use night-vision goggles, during the day he can use binoculars. A heartbeat sensor allows him to detect enemies hidden behind walls and he can find out what they're talking about by using uni-direction microphones. Weapons must be used sensibly, though, because rounds of ammunition are scarce and the enemy often has numerical superiority. Target platform The game is created primarily for the Windows operating system family (Windows 98/2000/XP), but thanks to its high portability, we intend to also support Linux and MacOSX operating systems. In addition, a conversion to X-box or Playstation 2 is considered as well.
