Stan Winston Studio Assumes Creative Role In Developing The Midway® Title's Lead Alien Enemy Characters
LOS ANGELES and CHICAGO--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Aug. 2, 2002-- Stan Winston Studio, home of four-time Academy Award-winning special effects legend Stan Winston, and Midway Games Inc. (NYSE:MWY - News), a leading software industry publisher and developer, have teamed in a development association for Midway's action-adventure videogame tentatively titled, AREA 51®. In addition, Stan Winston Productions has secured the exclusive motion picture rights for the project. AREA 51 is currently in development and scheduled to ship in 2004 for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, the Xbox(TM) video game system from Microsoft and Nintendo GameCube(TM).
As a result of the agreement, Stan Winston Studio will serve in a lead creative capacity in the development of the game's main alien enemies.
"We are thrilled to work with a creative legend like Stan Winston," said Helene Sheeler, vice president of Marketing, Midway. "Stan will bring a tremendous amount of talent and ingenuity to the creation of AREA 51, which is sure to be a blockbuster title for us."
Combining elements of precision sniper attacks and hand-to-hand combat, AREA 51 takes three distinct characters on individual and cooperative missions, in an attempt to unlock the extra-terrestrial mystery behind the Nevada desert locale. AREA 51 is based on a cryptic tale conceived and developed by a professional military sci-fi scriptwriter. To successfully carry out missions, accomplish goals and ultimately complete the game, players must utilize each character's attributes to unleash destruction on aliens while progressing through alien-inspired levels and mysterious settings.
This title is not officially proposed to Sony Computer Entertainment America.
