Infogrames Ships Genre-Defining MoonBase Commander to PC Software Retailers
Strategy Game for All Ages Launches With Chance for Six Future Astronauts To Go to US SPACE CAMP(R)
BEVERLY, Mass., Aug. 13 - Today Infogrames, Inc., a leading global publisher of interactive entertainment software like the award-winning Sid Meier's Civilization® III(TM), is shipping to retail a new type of strategy game that not only offers all the superb gameplay that strategy gamers have come to expect from the company, but also offers younger or novice players an entryway into the intriguing world of strategy games. MoonBase Commander(TM) for Windows® PCs was developed by multi-award-winning studio Humongous Entertainment (the minds behind such acclaimed games as the Backyard Sports(TM) series, Freddi Fish® and Spy Fox®) and offers gameplay mechanics that are simple enough for young players while offering strategic challenges that even the most seasoned strategy gamer will enjoy. And to give MoonBase Commander players a taste of what being an astronaut is really like, Infogrames and US Space Camp® are partnering to offer six future astronauts a chance win a trip (for themselves and a guest) to US Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama.
"We've come up with something really unique with this game," said Andy Hieke, senior vice president and general manager of Infogrames' Humongous Entertainment studio. "MoonBase Commander was designed as an immediately accessible strategy game. It has a game concept that is easy to grasp, simple to play, but difficult to master as it continues to challenge the player as their strategic thinking skills grow."
"We're very pleased to be partnering with US Space Camp to offer some lucky players of MoonBase Commander a chance to experience what being an astronaut would be like," said Steve Arthur, director of brand marketing at Infogrames. "Players will have the opportunity to win a trip to US Space Camp, including round-trip airfare, tuition and a flight suit, for themselves and a guest."
In MoonBase Commander players take on the role of commander of one of four factions that are vying for control of valuable energy pools that have been discovered on planets throughout the galaxy. Players must balance offensive, defensive and surveillance assets to consolidate their own positions while attempting to eliminate rival factions. Players may choose to play the game's artificial intelligence in the Challenge and single-player Skirmish modes or take on other human MoonBase Commanders in the multi-player Skirmish mode.
MoonBase Commander is rated "E" for Everyone, is compatible with Windows 98, ME, 2000 and XP PCs, and carries an approximate retail price of $19.95. Sweepstakes details are available at the game's Web site: http://www.moonbasecommander.com.
