Ultimate Baseball Online (UBO) is the first-ever massive-multiplayer real-time online baseball game where you, the player, can gain fame (or infamy) by playing your way into the major leagues. Live life as a baseball player, competing against real life opponents for rank, fame, and glory. 2. What is a Massively Multiplayer game? A massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) is a world in which you play side by side with thousands of others from around the globe. 3. Who is developing the game? Netamin is developing UBO with the assistance of former Major League Baseball players. 4. Can I play online? Yes. The beauty of massive multiplayer online games is that they are played with or against other players from around the world over the Internet. You must have an Internet connection to play. 5. Do I need a broadband connection? The game is being designed to work with a 56k modem, but broadband users will have the additional benefits such as streaming video on the scoreboards. Back to top 6. Will there be a fee to play in addition to buying the game? Yes. In order to cover the expenses of developing and supporting a game of this scale, there will be a small monthly fee. The monthly fee will be competitive with current market standards. 7. Are you developing UBO only for the PC? Currently, the only planned version of UBO is for the PC. However, this does not rule out any future expansions to other platforms including the ability to be ported to various standalone game consoles. 8. Where will the servers be? Servers will be spread across the United States, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and in other countries. 9. Will you support player-made teams? Yes. Players will not only be able to form their own teams, but name their own teams, choose a logo for their teams, and compete toward the UBO World Series. 10. How can I communicate with my teammates before, during, or after the game? Players will be able to communicate via text or voice with their teammates. Their text or voice communications will be confidential to the opposing team. However, one player will have the ability to communicate with the opposing team. This player can be the team captain, manager or coach and must be selected by each team prior to the start of the game. The team-selected captain, manager and coach will serve as the team’s representative. Back to top 11. Will there be customer support for the game? Customer support will be available via a toll-free telephone number in the US and online 24 hours per day. 12. Will there be prerelease testing? Yes. Testing is scheduled to begin the summer of 2002. 13. How do I sign up for testing? Please fill out the prerelease test survey on the Ultimate Baseball Online website. 14. How will I be able to customize my character? When you first log into the game, you will be able to customize your character based on primary position, sex, body type, skin tone, uniform, jersey number, and facial features. Eventually we will incorporate a feature that will allow you to upload your own face onto the character. You will also be able to customize your character’s DNA to create a variety of features including power hitter or fastball pitcher, just to name a few. 15. Can I play any position that I want? Players will be able to play any position they want, as long as their teammates agree. The team captain will decide the line-up before each game begins, with a lot of player input, of course. Pitching changes, and other strategic changes, will be possible within the game as well. Back to top 16. Can I create my own team or league? Yes, players are encouraged to create their own teams and/or leagues. When players log into UBO, they will enter the UBO Lobby where players will be able to meet other players to join teams, look for teams looking for players of certain positions, or recruit other players to join their own teams. Once a player joins or creates a team, the player can also create a unique league and recruit other teams to participate in the league. Alternatively, teams can participate in authorized leagues as sanctioned by UBO. When teams participate in UBO-sanctioned leagues, the teams will follow the UBO league schedules and abide by the rules and regulations of the UBO leagues. Very importantly, the game statistics of player- created leagues will also be maintained by UBO. Of course, the game statistics of UBO league games will also be automatically updated after every full game. 17. How will statistics be tracked? UBO will automatically calculate and update each character’s statistics, like batting average, number of hits, runs batted in and steals, Earned Run Average, won-loss record. The statistics for every full game will be automatically updated by the UBO database. Those stats will be uploaded to each player’s online trading card. 18. What is the UBO online trading card? Each player will have an online UBO trading card which the player can keep private or enable other players to view. The players can enjoy automatic updating of their own statistics. Additionally, the statistics of the top players will be published daily in the UBO Daily Sports Page. Your UBO trading card can be used for recruiting, showing off to your friends, and competitive analysis. 19. What is the UBO Daily Sports Page? The UBO Daily Sports Page is an online newspaper that covers UBO news, games, schedules, stars, statistics, trends and other entertaining and interesting tidbits from the virtual world of UBO. 20. How can I improve my skill level and advance to the Major League? Each player will begin at the Amateur Level and then progress up through the Rookie League, A League, AA League, AAA League and finally the Major Leagues. Each player will receive points for participating in games, winning games, getting hits, scoring runs, etc. After accumulating sufficient points, the player will be promoted to the next level. Back to top 21. What happens if my teammates do not advance at the same rate that I do, but I still want to play with them? Upon accumulating a sufficient number of points, the player has the choice to be promoted to the next level. Alternatively, the player can stay at the lower level in order to continue playing with his or her old teammates. 22. When will UBO be available for purchase? We expect to launch in the second quarter of 2003.
