SEGA Europe today announced the 2008 release of Yakuza 2 in Europe, exclusively for the PlayStation 2. This is the sequel to the 3rd person action adventure Yakuza, now featuring enhanced combat, larger environments and a thrilling storyline continuing a year after the first game ended. Kazuma Kiryu, the protagonist of the first game, is named Fourth Chairman of the Tojo Clan but unexpectedly retires from life in the clan the same day. However, his personally chosen successor is assassinated by a former allied gang called the Omi. This sets the stage for the sequel's storyline, which sees Kazuma travelling through Japan on what could be the last opportunity to stop an all-out war between the Tojo and Omi clans.
