ACCLAIM ENTERTAINMENT (UK) LTD ANNOUNCES THAT BURNOUTTM PLATINUM WILL HIT UK STORES 7th FEBRUARY 2003 LONDON, UK, January 16, 2003 – Following the enormous success of the chart-topping arcade racing game, BurnoutTM, Acclaim Entertainment Ltd is pleased to announce that a Platinum edition is due for release on February 7th 2003. The award-winning, Burnout was originally released in November 2001 to worldwide critical acclaim and immediately took its place as one of the greatest driving games for PlayStation 2. The game takes the white-knuckle, foot-to-the floor action often associated with track racing, and brings it to major highways and densely populated city streets. Inspired by some of the most memorable car chase scenes from the greatest action films of all time, Burnout features an incredibly sophisticated and intelligent traffic system, which challenges players to race to the finish line at breakneck speeds through a myriad of checkpoints and obstacles. With dramatic crashes possible with every turn of the wheel and danger on every corner, competing drivers are rewarded with incredible speed-boosts for aggressive driving and for pushing their skills to the limits. "We're really delighted that the success of Burnout has enabled it to join the much acclaimed Platinum range," said James Sheahan, UK Brand Manager. "It remains as one of the best driving games of the console. Few other games match the sheer exhilaration and adrenaline rush of the Burnout experience. The awards and praise it received at the time and the fantastic comments we continue to receive from consumers around the world, stand as testament to the quality of the product and the expertise of the Criterion Games." Developed by Guildford-based Criterion Games, Burnout offers a broad array of features, including: * Real-time vehicle crashes, highlighted by multiple-camera instant replays; * 16 exciting courses, each filled with unique challenges and obstacles, spanning the United States and Europe; * Multiplayer split-screen action for head-to-head competition; * More than 300 vehicles on each course to collide with; * Intelligent traffic system, featuring three distinct types of driver behaviours; * Dolby Digital surround sound technology; * Dual-shock controller compatible, letting players feel every turn and crunch of the car! BurnoutTM Platinum edition is available from 7th February 2003 from all good retailers, priced at £19.99.
