In Laser Squad Nemesis, players assume control of one of three factions -- the Space Marines, Mechanoids, or Spawn -- and issue orders to their units before submitting the orders to LSN’s central server, where the turn is processed. Players then receive a file that shows the in-game action in real-time.
The software is a 'client' that communicates with the central game servers. You cannot play the game unless you have been challenged by a subscriber, or you have already subscribed to the LSN games service.
The minimum system requirements are as follows:
• Pentium II PC
• Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000 or XP
• Standard SVGA graphics card
• 64 Mb memory
• 50 Mb hard disk space
• DirectX 7 if using a 3D card
• An email account
HOTMAIL ACCOUNTS
LSN does not work very well with Hotmail because the turn files take a very long time to arrive. We recommend that you use a POP3 account i.e. a standard email account that allows you to use outlook express and other mail readers.
TESTING BEFORE SUBSCRIPTION
There are 3 tutorials for you to play which will help you learn the game system and test the compatibility of the software on your machine. After installation, just launch LSN and click on 'Tutorials' button to show a list of the available tutorial games. The third tutorial is a proper game scenario which will test your tactical abilities before taking on a human opponent. Please report any problems you have on our 'bug reports' message board.
YOUR EMAIL COMPATIBILITY
After playing the tutorials you can test the email functionality without subscribing by following these instructions:
Launch the LSN software
Enter any player name and your email address in the edit boxes on the main screen, but leave the password field blank.
Then click on 'new game' and click on the button next to 'find any available opponent'.
Then click on 'start game'.
On the next screen click 'send'.
You should see a screen saying 'email sent successfully'. Shortly afterwards you should receive an email indicating that you need to subscribe to the LSN game service. At this point you should be reasonably confident that your system will work with LSN. If you have any problems please contact the webmaster.
