Activision Value today announced that The History Channel's Civil War: Great Battles is now available at retail stores nationwide for a suggested retail price of $19.99. Combining elements of strategic combat and simulation tactics, the game "challenges players to take control of the North or the South and drive their forces to victory through a fierce war of attrition".

"With historically accurate weaponry, uniforms, photographs and music, `THE HISTORY CHANNEL Presents Civil War -- Great Battles' is one of the most comprehensive games on the subject to date." Playing against the computer's AI or a friend in multiplayer, would-be generals begin the action from a turn-based strategy map with the goal of capturing enemy forts and cities. As players gain territory, they acquire additional resources with which to field more soldiers. If a territory is contested, players are taken to a 3D battlefield at which point they can control their troops in battle. From the battlefield players will have the opportunity to strategically position infantry, cavalry, artillery and generals for maximum effect. To win the game, players must defeat the opposing forces and conquer their territory. Minimum system requirements for "THE HISTORY CHANNEL Presents Civil War -- Great Battles" include a Pentium 500Mhz, 64 MB RAM, a DirectX® compatible Sound Card, DirectX® compatible 3D Accelerator with 8MB RAM, 700 MB of Hard Drive space, 8X CD ROM, Mouse and Keyboard and Windows 98/ME/2000/XP.
