The official Worms 3 website has been updated with 12 new screenshots (available in our gallery as usual) of this 3D turn-based arcade game in the works at Team 17. The game will be published by Activision later this year on PS2, GameCube, Xbox and PC.
Worms3 represents the third generation of the seven-million unit selling Worms action-strategy series. Originally released in 1995, Worms has attracted a strong, cult following around the world. The original game scored highly in terms of playability, remaining high in the software sales charts for much of the next eighteen months and collecting a hatful of industry awards for gaming excellence & originality. Worms2 was launched in late 1997 and added sublime 2D cartoon animation as well as a myriad of new features, weapons, options and Internet play. The series has since been extended with the release of Worms Armageddon and Worms World Party. Worms3 continues the history of turn based strategy featuring a bizarre and outlandish array of deliciously explosive weaponry, mad animals, crazy speech and laugh-out-loud instances. Game details: Worms3, due for release in 2003, brings the title into full-blown 3D for the first time ever! In conjunction with a revolutionary, fully deformable 3D landscape technology, it expands the strategic options offered in the previous games into fascinating new directions. That means caves, cliffs, holes, multiple levels, buildings, ropes, tunnels - all in gorgeous 3D! Worms3 will also feature stunning 3D animation of the Worms themselves, which surpasses anything seen in Worms titles to date, including any FMV sequences! Stay tuned to this site for more updates, news and features. Check out the Team17 forum (forum.team17.com) for comments, responses and discussions on this and other Team17 titles. Technical informations: Worms3 uses a proprietary, all-new deformable polygon landscape engine that allows the player to destroy any part or ALL of the landscape, from any direction. Shoot through the floor, make a hole and shoot at the player below you on a plateau! Tunnel your way through the hillside! Blast your way through! Watch as the landscape crumbles, sinks and deforms as you use progressively more powerful weapons! Unlike other engines, the technology allows you to explode any part of the land, create holes, tunnels, cliffs, caves and emulates the way the game played in 2D. We're pretty pleased with it. Release: The title is currently in development for release sometime in 2003 and the publishing rights are currently under negotiation with major global publishing entities. We expect to make a formal announcement during the summer. The game will be developed for Sony PlayStation2, Nintendo GameCube, Microsoft X-Box and IBM PC (which will feature on-line Internet play and full featured terrain/level editor).
