CAPCOM® ANNOUNCES GREGORY HORROR SHOW STYLIZED JAPANESE CARTOON OOZES WITH COMICAL CHARACTERS E3, LOS ANGELES – May 14, 2003 – Capcom® today announced plans to release Gregory Horror Show (working title) for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system. Based on an award-winning highly stylized Japanese cartoon of the same name, this totally original 4-D puzzle adventure game stars tons of unusual and comical characters that ooze a haunting and spooky atmosphere. Gregory Horror Show stars “Gregory” as a hideously misshaped square-headed mouse who acts as the caretaker of a unique hotel. Gregory Horror Show is scheduled to release this fall. Gregory Horror Show puts players into a roll as themselves, as they have lost their way and wander into a hotel called Gregory House, but soon find that leaving is not quite as simple as entering. Gregory House is no ordinary hotel, but a weird alternate dimension, reminiscent of a dreamlike state. While searching for an exit, players encounter death who promises to return the player to their own dimension if they collect all the wandering souls locked in the hotel. The other guests are not eager to hand over their spirits so players will have to exploit their weaknesses if they are to gain enough souls to escape. In order to find out these weak points players will need to search for clues, solve puzzles and even spy on the behaviour of other guests by peeping through their keyholes. Time plays a crucial role in Gregory Horror Show with all the guests keeping to strict schedules – when they watch television, when they eat and when they sleep. Players must note the behaviour of fellow guests if they are to calculate the optimum time to try and take their souls. Gregory Horror Show gameplay features: • Variety of unique characters – Character design by Naomi Iwata, who won second place for animated television series in the Vancouver Effects and Animation Festival (VEAF). Received “special award” at the Annecy 2001 International Animated film festival for an animated television series. • Gathering souls – Players have the ability to gather souls from various guests by solving puzzles and through other actions. • Unlimited amount of plot developments and story twists based on the time and location. • “Handy” item – The hand item can be used all over the hotel and in various ways such as opening doors, stealing souls and even confusing guests coming to attack you. Players must beware; for once they’ve stolen a soul, the furious guest will give chase and hunt them down. In order to escape, they will have to quickly run and hide before the guest unleashes their special attack that will drain ‘mentality points,’ a measure of the characters level of sanity. Once the mentality points are gone, the character will end up just as crazy and trapped as the rest of the inhabitants.
