Video Precautions
A DirectX 8.1 compatible hardware 3D accelerator is required to run this game.
The game does not support software rendering.
DirectX 8.1 is supplied with the game, and will install itself if your current DirectX installation is an earlier version than DirectX 8.1
Please note that the video resolution (and control) setup for Robocop is common to all user account on your PC. If you have several user accounts on your machine, modifying your configuration will modify others’ account as well.
While it is possible to run Robocop in 16 bit color, 32 bit color depth should be used if your hardware can support it. If 32 bit color depth is too slow you may be able to switch to 16 bit color depth at the cost of some visual quality
You can run the game in a window by unchecking the ‘fullscreen’ check box.
When running in a window, the color depth is set in the Windows Display control panel.
The game usually runs better in fullscreen than in a window, although this will depend on the resolution you have selected.
(see Performance Tips below).
The game requires a 3D accelerator capable of rendering at least two textures in a single pass. Unless you have a very old card this should not be a problem. Voodoo 2 cards, and other old cards that are not capable of rendering in a window are not supported.
Robocop is NOT intended to function with the following accelerated 3D' video cards/chipsets:
Voodoo 1
Voodoo 2
Voodoo 3
Voodoo Rush
Voodoo Banshee
nVidia Riva 128
Rendition Verite
ATI Rage 1
S3 Virge
S3 Savage
Matrox Millenium
Power VR1
Power VR2
This list is not intended to be exhaustive: other cards or chipsets may also cause problems.
Sound Precautions
A wrongly selected driver can result in error when running the program, so make sure you have installed the driver that best suits the hardware in your system. Again, as long as your sound card drivers are fully up-to-date and you have the latest version of Direct X installed, you should encounter no problems.
If your sound card is not compatible with the game, then you will not hear any sound. If you cannot hear any sound when playing the game, it's likely that you have an incompatible sound card or drivers.
Reference Manual
The full manual for Robocop has been produced in electronic format (.pdf ) and is included on the CD. Adobe Acrobat Reader is included on the CD and is needed to view the manual.
Installation Problems
If you want to re-install Robocop at any time (to install to another hard-disk or partition, for example) then you should UN-install Robocop if it already exists on your machine.
Robocop can be uninstaller using the UNINSTALL ROBOCOP icon in Robocop in your Start Menu.
Robocop needs the CD to be in the drive when you run the game. It will not run if the CD is missing.
Game controllers
You can play Robocop with mouse and keyboard. Robocop does not support any joystick or gamepad. You can configure your keyboard in the game options
Note that Robocop will recognize updates to your controls while it is running and adapt accordingly; you do not need to quit and restart Robocop.
Compatibility With Various Operating Systems
Robocop has been tested with
Windows 2000
Windows XP Home
Windows XP Professional
Windows 98
Windows Me
Windows 95 users should be able to play Robocop as long as they have Explorer 3.02 (or above) and DirectX 8.1 (or above) installed.
Machines with Windows NT4 or below are very unlikely to be able to run Robocop. We suggest you do not try.
More often than not, compatibility problems arise due to a faulty installation of DirectX, video card or sound card drivers. The use of Beta drivers can also cause problems. If the game refuses to run, then check the DirectX installation with the help of Dxdiag.exe utility (this will perform a DirectX test) and can be run by clicking on your Start bar, selecting Run then typing in DXDiag, followed by clicking OK. If all tests perform correctly, then the game should run. If however they do not, then you probably have a driver issue on your system and you should contact your hardware supplier for updated drivers.

Performance Tips:
Here are some tips for you to enhance the performance of your game.
Do not run unnecessary tasks in the background.
To increase game speed, try using lower screen resolutions in the game. Changing display color depth to 16 bit instead of 32 can also improve performance. Some hardware may not be able to handle 32 bit color depth, or may run slowly in 32 bit mode. A 32 bit screen color depth is recommended whenever possible.
Various key-combinations are available so that you can change certain settings and alter the performance of the game. Take extreme care if you are playing Robocop on minimum-requirement hardware. These settings can seriously effect performance.
