In a constant attempt to play the parent role to an entire nation, the Australian government seeks to block access to websites with content for games rated 18+.
There are plenty of countries that are way too conservative with their treatment of game content, but none beat Australia's attitude towards the entertainment medium. According to a Gamasutra report, the Australian federal government is seeking to block all Internet access to websites pertaining to games that do not fall under the MA15+ or below rating. In other words, games that are typically rated M in America or 18+ anywhere else will have blocked access.
Publishers already have enough trouble trying to ship games over, but this new strategy will not only look to prevent access to Flash games of mature content, but from allowing Australian players to import physical copies of the games from other countries. In other words, if you want an M-Rated game in its unmodified glory, you'll have to do a lot of hacking in order to get it.
As can be expected, the backlash from the games and web industry has been major.
