Terminal Reality and Gathering of Developers Announce 4X4 Evolution Off-Road Simulation Racer will be First Third Party Game to Support Cross-Platform Multi-Player Capabilities Dallas, TX, March 30, 2000 -- Game developer Terminal Reality and developer-driven computer and video game publisher Gathering of Developers today announced 4x4 Evolution, an arcade-style, 4x4 off-road simulation for the PC, Mac and Sega Dreamcast™. 4x4 Evolution puts virtual drivers behind the wheel of their favorite real world SUV and/or light truck and challenges them to race through a variety of detailed off-road environments. 4x4 Evolution utilizes GameSpy’s “peer to peer” technology to support Internet multi-player options between Sega Dreamcast, Mac and PC. The game will be released by the Gathering in Summer 2000. "4x4 Evolution is a very unique game in that it will be the first third-party development game with online capabilities.” said Mark Randel, president of Terminal Reality. "This online technology supports connections between players using a Sega Dreamcast, Mac or PC version of 4x4 Evolution, thus allowing gamers to compete head-to-head with each other regardless of platform.” 4x4 Evolution takes gamers for a rough off-road ride through a total of 16 tracks, each with its own distinctive design, music score and difficulty level. In addition to contending with the other vehicles, players will be challenged by a variety of variables such as gates, trees, tractors in junkyards or on-coming traffic in construction zones. Virtual drivers choose their own path as they begin with a base truck and compete in a series of off-road races to win cash. This money can then be used to upgrade and customize their vehicle with a bevy of enhancements such as heavy-duty off-road suspension, brush guards, performance exhaust, and special off-road racing tires. In a first for Sega Dreamcast, 4x4 Evolution’s multi-player version will allow up to four Sega Dreamcast owners to compete online. The PC and Mac version will support up to eight players over the Internet or a LAN. "Terminal Reality is well-known throughout the gaming industry as one of the top developers of simulation games,” said Harry Miller, president of Gathering of Developers. "4x4 Evolution is a major coup for Terminal Reality as they are combining their meticulous attention to detail and graphical expertise to develop an arcade-style simulation game that will be available across three different platforms.”
