ThinkTanks Popularity Grows as Size Shrinks
ThinkTanks 1.1 update is now complete. The demo download is now only 6.6 MB. Fan sites are popping up, the Scrum League is active and rumors of an Army forming with players choosing sides.
In discussions with Joe Maruschak we get a sense of how the current update and changes happened.
"We knew that when we launched ThinkTanks, that the players in the community would exploit situations that we could not anticipate and uncover bugs we could not catch, but what really excited us was the ability to get in there and play with the community and understand what they liked and did not like about the game. We were not just making the necessary post ship adjustments that all multi-player games have to deal with, we actually were actively looking at the direction that the players of the game wanted to go and tweaking the game with the help of direct end user feedback and testing..."
"Most of the gameplay tweaks were small and subtle, but the aggregated changes definitely improved the fun factor of the game and many were the result of direct feedback from the players. It made a big difference to me as a designer to be able to jump in and find the player that made a suggestion, and have them show me what they were talking about."

Joe comments, on the recently launched dedicated server for 'Scrum League', "Several hard core Scrum players wanted to play some serious Scrum, and we contributed to this by setting a dedicated hosted server for the league. One of the players from the community manages the league, organizes the games, and the whole operation happens now with very little involvement on our part. We see this as yet another way that we can support the community. We can provide resources (game tweaks, servers), to allow the community to grow in a way that is very natural, while we play a role in supporting and enabling what the players want, instead of driving the direction the community takes."
