Hollow is an intense rollercoaster through four distinct worlds with a compelling story, excellent graphics, breakthrough immersion system with psychometrics, and numerous innovative gameplay features. Hollow is a first person action totally nonlinear game with playtime of about 25 hours in 23 unique episodes: Splinter Cell meets Doom III, Battlefield 1942 and Halo*.
The story is set in the background of the world of 1970’s as it would be without the Second World War, in a Disco-totalitarian state called Centrope. Tyler Kilmore, an expelled US journalist, came back to Centrope after five long years to reunite with his fiancée that he had to leave behind, only to be arrested for her murder. Tyler literally goes all the way to Hell to get her, and unravels a primeval mystery that will rewrite the history of mankind from scratch.
Key Features
* Varied Universe: Four Incredibly Unique Worlds
The engaging story of Tyler Kilmore, an expelled US reporter in search of his fiancée and a secret from beyond time, takes place in four unique worlds. An alternative history of the 1970’s, as it would be without the Second World War, will provide exceptional variety of ambient: from giant Centropolis, and ramshackle Mirror City to the mind-boggling Time Distortion Territory and finally the hellish primeval Underworld.
The first is a world of totalitarian state called Centrope, a sinister conglomerate of nations that emerged after the Great War that raged for 38 years, from 1914 on. This is the world where the game starts. Huge corporations, banks, ominous disco-style police and paramilitary forces are hallmarks of this remarkable environment.
A mixture of neoclassicist, constructivist and international style, coupled with avant-garde vehicles and airships, give Centropolis, the capital of Centrope, a unique atmosphere.
The second world is the Mirror City. As the name suggests, it is an underground city that is the same as Centropolis above, except that it is mirrored, ramshackle and decaying. It is the world where outlaws, criminals, rebels and the destitute live. Buildings and skyscrapers are turned upside down in an enormous underground cave like artificial stalactites. Dwellers of the Mirror City walk on ceilings and look up to floors as they lie down after the intensive and dangerous everyday existence. The city is packed with dangerous gangs equipped with intricate battle vehicles, creepy Mirror Men that turn from timid shadows to vicious bloodthirsty predators, hazardous buildings and omnipresent perils.
The third world starts in a remote woodland province, continues through a massive impenetrable defense perimeter and ends in the Time Distortion Territory. The isolated and abandoned Palo Alto-like research facility in woodlands of Centrope guarantees true guerilla fighting sensation and wild car chases. The defense perimeter prevents access to the Time Distortion Territory and houses recording devices for time fragments. It is a giant concrete structure, hundreds of miles long, guarded by the elite Prince Krux forces. The Time Distortion Territory is a direct result of a war-time experiment gone wrong. The ghostly and supernatural environment hides the gates to the primeval Hell.
The fourth and final world is the hellish Underworld. A gigantic cavern, tens of miles high, hundreds of miles wide, with webs of tunnels, houses the primordial civilization of the Neanderthals that were shunned off the surface of the Earth 50,000 years ago. A glowing mist, levitating at the top of the cavern, illuminates the moist and hot biosphere. Huge insects provide building material with their exoskeletons, foot-long fireflies light up the huts as they squirm suspended on ceilings. In the center of the cavern is the city of Mors, inside a vertiginous column that spans all the way up to the cavern’s ceiling.
* ChronoFreeze
ChronoFreeze is a feature that enables Tyler to freeze time for resolving most complex situations, or to reverse time for a couple of moments and undo mistakes. Thus the ChronoFreeze adds a new dimension to gameplay.
Tyler can, for example, throw some crates off a skyscraper rooftop and use ChronoFreeze the next moment to freeze time. He can then jump off the rooftop and land on the crates that stopped a couple of floors down frozen in time, break a window on that floor and jump into the building. Of course, time is of the essence: ChronoFreeze works only a couple of moments and Tyler must be as quick and agile as possible to complete a feat like this.
The alternative usage will enable Tyler to rewind time a couple of moments back, making it possible to fix mistakes or undo wrong moves. Tyler will thus be able to try the most daring stunts without the danger of dying instantly, relieving the player from the hassle of quick saving and loading.
Careful positioning of ChronoFreeze refills throughout the game and specific levels will raise the level of entertainment and creative immersion to the intensity never seen before.
* HoloSnoop
This is a highly visually attractive feature that will enable Tyler to control a holographic image of himself in third person view and walk it around the level to a limited distance.
Consequently, Tyler will be able to inspect some of the level without being exposed to immediate danger, and trick NPCs into believing the hologram is Tyler himself. This opens a whole new aspect of, for example, planning diversions.
By using the HoloSnoop, a hologram of Tyler will detach from the first person camera and seamlessly blend into the third person view. The hologram can perform all actions except engaging in a fight, but its range of operation is limited to about twenty yards. Once outside the range of operation or summoned back, the camera will turn towards Tyler and swoosh back by the shortest way possible directly into his head in a visually stunning and striking way.
* Montage of Attractions
Another highly marketable cinematic feature is a sequence of most attractive and spectacular acts Tyler performed in his last mission. In a true action movie manner, sequences will be edited and shown in third person view using slow-motion, time slice, depth focus, multiple replays and other cinematic effects, making each mission an unforgettable movie-like experience. This feature will help the player to feel like a true action hero.
* Taking Hostage
Tyler will be able to take any NPC hostage at any time. Additionally, in the multiplayer mode, hostages will include other players, shifting the multiplayer mode onto a next level: for example, with a possibility of the hostage’s comrades resolving the dangerous situation in true Special Forces commando approach.
There are numerous attractive possibilities of usage of this feature. Tyler will be able to take a hostage and bluff his way out of a tight spot even without any ammo in his weapons. Of course, the NPCs will react accordingly to their category: ordinary cops won’t shoot, while Prince Krux commandos will probably shoot regardless of the hostage.
Tyler will be able to interrogate hostages or use them as shields when shot at. Of course, he’ll be able to kill a hostage at any time, which will result in a temporary impairment of his hearing and sight if using a firearm.
Alternate fire will toggle the weapon from aiming at the hostage to aiming forward the usual way. The fire button will fire the weapon in either direction. If the weapon is aimed at the hostage, the hostage is instantly killed if the fire button is pressed, while shooting forwards is hampered and less accurate. Only slow walking is possible when holding a hostage.
* Original Music by MTV’s Siddharta
The Hollow will feature original music by Siddharta and selected songs from their triple-platinum album Nord. Expert musicians, coupled with the immersive music engine will heighten the emotions of players.
