North America Retail Box ArtEvil Islands features a 3-D camera viewpoint more recently showcased by the real time strategy (rather than role playing) genre. Playing the central character Zak, the plot revolves around piecing your identity back together having lost your memory. Naturally this means roaming maps and going from village to village, bumping off the designated villain or creatures in order to progress. As is customary in an RPG, succeeding in these quests rewards you with experience points that you can use to augment Zak's prowess in either strength or magic, but the killer app within Evil Islands is the weapon construction, not only for the usual spells, but also the physical weapons. This introduces a strategy element as you search for the right materials to make the right weapons for the upcoming mission. You'll see some blood, but not enough to make it x-rated and the processor can descend to a PII-233 with 128 Mb RAM and 480 Mb disk space. Only diehard role-players will stick with this one through to the later levels. The game draws you in very slowly and you need to quickly master the weapon building in order to sustain your interest. --Kenneth Henry
