In bringing the best-selling Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved to mobile phones, it was a huge accomplishment maintaining the bright graphics and frantic gameplay that Xbox Live Arcade users have been enjoying for a year. However, never ones to be satisfied with simply good enough, Bizarre Creations have added a number of extra challenge modes that will give even grizzled GW players a reason to give Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved Mobile a run.
The main game, where the only goal is to destroy as many enemies as possible to rack up a high score. Nearly identical to the XBLA version, gameplay gets increasingly hectic as foes continue to spawn and new rival types appear as your score multiplier goes up. High scores can be posted to a network leader board and to a local ranking table.
A kind of practice mode, players are invincible to give newcomers a feel for the game and to find what control set-up works best for them. Life and bomb meters are displayed, but there is no multiplier or score.
All of the Challenge modes are similar to the Evolved Mobile mode except players are trying to reach a pre-defined objective. A player’s best times or scores for each challenge can be posted on local challenge lists and on the network leader board.
