Devastation, impending doom, pirates, space fugitives, missions, trading and that's just for starters. It's all rather fitting for the sequel to one of the hidden gems of PC gaming I-War, and the story picks up 100 years later with--ho hum--the Universe itself now under threat. Predictable maybe, but it does set the scene for a very involving game with a very long play life. For while at heart this is a simulation, the sub elements and quests--while still allowing reasonably free gameplay--do certainly keep you interested. Unfortunately, the depth of the game will no doubt act as a deterrent to the more casual gamer, and perhaps rightly so. For one thing, it's not too easy a game to get to grips with, as even controlling your craft on a basic level will take a bit of work, and also, to really get into it, you're going to have to devote yourself to the cause. However, if you are willing to invest the time and are mildly tempted, then you really are in for a treat. For this is one of the most polished and engrossing games of its type on the PC. Iced with quality graphics and compulsive gameplay, it'll simply leave you pining for episode three. --Simon Brew
