Newly formed Polish developer Gingerbread Studios today announced The Protector, a thrilling PC and Xbox 360 first/third person shooter featuring visceral action, tense, tactical stealth and an enthralling storyline. The Protector centres on the exploits of two vastly different characters - hardened British mercenary Jonathan Kane and beautiful US archaeologist Jennifer Guile. After an acrimonious two-year estrangement, these two former lovers are reunited when Jennifer's father - a leading archaeologist - is murdered by a new terrorist organisation called Scarlet Vengeance, which is looking for a powerful Aztec artefact to use for a devastating terrorist attack. When Scarlet Vengeance's attentions turn to Jennifer - the only person who knows the location of the artefact - Kane is forced to track her down and protect her. Thrown together in extreme circumstances, the duo must overcome their differences and use their unique skills to thwart the terrorists' horrifying plan. Press Release: Gingerbread Studios Unleashes THE PROTECTOR

Capcom released new screenshots from We Love Golf!, a Wii game scheduled to be released in North America in 2008. Players will use the controller to choose clubs, line up shots, swing and even add a touch fade or draw with a flick of the wrist. Just as on a real course, gauging wind conditions, correct club selection and careful reading of the greens are all essential for victory. A variety of game modes, multiple characters, and unlockable content will provide endless hours of putting heaven.

2K Sports, the sports publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, today announced that three-time NHL All-Star and captain of the Columbus Blue Jackets, Rick Nash, will be featured as the cover athlete and spokesman for this year's hockey video game, NHL 2K9. Visual Concepts has taken over the development duties for NHL 2K9 and are building a brand new experience from the ground up with the ultimate goal of creating an addictively fun sport simulation of the NHL that will be available this fall. NHL 2K9 is being developed by Visual Concepts, a 2K Sports studio, and is not yet rated by the ESRB. The game will be available for Xbox 360, PS2 and PS3 system. Splash Damage today announced that they are doing some last minute testing with id Software to track down a few issues that have turned up in the upcoming patch (v1.5) for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. Distribution is being sorted out at the moment as well and if there are no further complications, the update will be out next week.

Kaos Studios has announced that the upcoming patch (v1.1.0) for Frontlines: Fuel of War has been slightly delayed. Kaos Studios run into some issues with the patch, primarily related to the anti-cheat integration, which is requiring extra time to complete. The v1.1.0 update which carried the v1.0.3 number) will include PunkBuster anti-cheat, a new server browser, various bugfixes, as well as several gameplay and UI enchancements - click here for an updated changelog.

Excalibur Publishing has announced that Euro Truck Simulator will hit the store shelves this August. Euro Truck Simulator is a truck simulation game set in continental Europe, where you can drive across a realistic depiction of Europe, visiting beautiful cities, picking up cargos and trying to deliver them on time. Euro Truck Simulator is being developed by SCS Software.

Our gallery has been updated with one screenshot from Mafia 2, a sequel to the original Mafia title in the works at 2K Czech (ex-Illusion Softworks), the same studio which produced the first title. The action is set in a fictitious late 1940's-early 1950's scenario, in a mob underworld with believable characters and beautiful cars. Mafia 2 is in development for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

A new patch for Tarr Chronicles has been released, updating to v1.0.4.0 this space sim developed by Kvazar Studio (thanks: The Patches Scrolls). The English demo is locally mirrored here.
