North America Retail Box ArtWorms Blast is not a bad game. It's also not a very good game. What it is is possibly the most painfully average and obviously derivative game to be released all year. The regular Worms titles continue to be among the most popular party games around, but this is not a regular Worms title; this is a clone of Bust-A-Move (aka Puzzle Bobble) with the Worms license plastered unconvincingly atop of it. In Bust-A-Move you have to shoot different coloured bubbles up the screen so that they collide with the large collection of bubbles that are slowly descending towards you. If you connect bubbles of the same colour together then they disappear, and the idea is to clear the whole screen of the little multi-coloured spheres. Worms Blast is exactly the same except that you shoot different coloured bullets at coloured blocks. So, Worms Blast is pretty much identical--except that it's no fun. Having to move your character left and right across the screen is annoying and the controls, ridiculously simple as they are, still manage to be fiddly and counter-intuitive. Unless you have a thing for cartoon invertebrates there's not much point buying Worms Blast considering that Bust-A-Move is still available and cheaper, so try that out instead--it really is much better. --David Jenkins
