Remember the good old days of Links 386 Pro? Ever had a fun night out at the bars or arcade with Golden Tee? I've recently had this addiction to playing Golden Tee and sipping golden brews. Don't know; they just seem to go together well. So naturally, I needed to pick up a golf game for home to tie me over until the next time I make it out to play Golden Tee.

I've been hearing about Hot Shots Golf 3 for a while. I haven't gotten into a golf game since back in the days of Links 386 Pro for home, don't know why, I just never did. This game has lots of fun to offer, and you don't need to be a golfing fanatic to appreciate the game of golf to appreciate HSG3.

Let's get the bad out of the way first. I found some of the sounds to be annoying. Bone-chilling annoying. You have a caddy that follows you everywhere and insists on making really annoying comments when you miss the hole, or have a bad shot. I got to the point of just playing music to drown out the comments.

Now that that's out of the way, let's get on with the good. And there are lots to be said. Graphically, this game has some style. It definitely doesn't push the PS2 to new limits, but it's pretty, and uses some cool effects when you nail a nice shot. The characters are a little odd, but have personality and while I haven't unlocked all of them, definitely add to the fun feel of the game. The courses are laid out beautifully, and I love the way they did the greens in this game. It's pretty easy to read the grain on the short grass.

Control-wise, they went with a simple control scheme that adds to the game. Almost anyone can pick it up, but there are also special shots you can make as you progress in the game, as well as getting new clubs with new and different abilities.

This game has a surprising amount of depth. With so many unlock able courses and characters, it will be sure to keep you busy for quite a while, and what a great party game! There are so many hidden Easter eggs in this game as well as things you can purchase from the golf shop; it keeps you coming back for more. Pick this one up for some fun!
