Review by Neil 'NXS' J. Sloan

The Resident Evil series has always consisted of skinless dogs, zombies, and just an ambiance of evil! Resident Evil Dead Aim is the newest in the series. Is this new addition to the Resident Evil series worthy of the title and will it appease what fans of the series have come to expect?

Now usually I answer the questions I ask at the end of the review, however, since Resident Evil Dead Aim is a little different from the others, I have decided to approach this a little different. First off I have to say that RE Dead Aim is a lot shorter than what I expected. I beat it in under two hours, twice, on easy! Normal and hard add a little more difficulty to it but for the most part it is the same game, although some things do change.

This Resident Evil actually surprised me! It is not your typical Resident Evil game. It does have some of the characteristics of others in the series like blowing away T-virus infected people all over the place and some puzzle solving elements, but nowhere near what the others had to offer. This installment, does not have the appeal that I think it should. Don't get me wrong Resident Evil Dead Aim is very fun to play. Shooting a zombie with a shotgun into a wall and then have it slide down was just great, but this is about all it was good for.

Almost all of this game takes place indoors, with exception of the outside part of the boat. It is graphically the best I have seen the RE series look and this is to be expected as technology improves. The RE has always been a dark game and this one is no exception. Whether it be wondering through a ghost ship, running through sewers, or in a laboratory, it just looks wonderful and not to mentions the times that you have many, many zombies chasing you through a room, there is no slowdown at all. I could not find one glitch throughout the entire game, and this is a good thing because, as I said it is short! RE Dead Aim does not have much music or sound to it, but what there is, sure fits it. I always love to hear the moan of a zombie creeping up behind me. There not many ambient sounds to speak of aside from footsteps , gun noises, etc..

After playing Resident Evil Dead Aim for an extended period of time, I thought this would be the one that would have multi-player capabilities and I will explain why. Number one, it can be played with a light gun, which would have been sweet if I would have had one. If you don't have one the game is a little harder just cause of the fact that you have to use the right analog stick to aim. Number two, since after a while you switch to a girl for some parts of the game, it would have made sense to have a second player to play her throughout. And third, it's short! Having another player added in would have been something different and would have added more to the game play.

For the most part, if you have played any Resident Evil game, you will get the feel for this very quickly. Although I did have fun playing it, I have some minor issues with RE Dead Aim and they are as follows: It is the shortest Resident Evil I have ever played! You do get to switch characters, however, you only get to do this when you just happen to run into to the other player when he/she is in dire need of your help. As I played it more and more, I can tell you that this game is meant to played with the light gun and I think the people that have one are going to be most pleased with it. There are a few things about the cut scenes that I have a little problems with also. After you beat the game the first time, the next time you play it, you are asked if you want to change characters, I thought this was kinda nifty! However this quickly faded as when you get to the parts that show the cut scenes, they do not change it for the person you are playing! This really did annoy me and the fact that if you have a shotgun going into one of these, the cut scene will show you that you have a hand gun! I know this is a little thing, but, I thought it could have been done a little better.

Here is my overall thoughts about Resident Evil Dead Aim, it is fun to play. Graphics are very nice and the sounds tend to follow what is going on around you. I was a little disappointed that there was nowhere near the puzzles or the difficulty of puzzles as I thought there should be. It is definitely geared towards people that own a light gun! As there is no multiplayer capabilities in it, after you go through the game on any level, there is really no replay value. I do not think that the die hard Resident Evil fans out there will spend more than a day on this game, it is worthy of renting and that's about it. In short, the game is short, looks pretty, should have had multi-play, if you have the gun, it will be more fun but a lot easier, and most of us should wait until the next one!
