The idea of giant beasties stomping around major cities beating each other up and using tanks for boxing gloves is made digital reality in War of the Monsters More Power Stone than Tekken, the game doesn't feature tons of combos and moves but instead depends on the way you use the environment. Nearly everything--from fire engines to flagpoles--can be picked up and thrown or used as a cudgel and you can run around the large arenas as you will, climbing up buildings and hiding behind skyscrapers. Indeed, in many ways War of the Monsters feels more like a real (in the Hollywood sense of the word) fight than many a more serious beat-'em-up, since combatants often break off their attack to go and find a health power-up or an extra weapon rather than just standing two inches in front of each other for the entire length of the barney. Pretty much everything in the game works perfectly: the graphics are sharp and crisp, the environments and characters are varied and interesting and only the innate shallowness and odd split-screen two-player mode could possibly be considered drawbacks. --David Jenkins
